Progress Meeting Talk
B2ParentGood afternoon, Mr Wilkins. I was hoping we could discuss how Emily has been getting on since the last report.
TeacherGood afternoon, Mrs Thompson. Emily's work has improved in several areas, although some difficulties remain. Her English essays have been marked more highly because she has started using a wider range of vocabulary.
ParentThat is encouraging. Has she managed to complete the history project that was set before the holidays?
TeacherShe handed it in two weeks late. If she had planned her time more carefully, the project would have received a higher grade. The research itself was solid, but the final presentation lacked structure.
ParentI see. What about mathematics? Her father and I have been concerned since the last parents' evening.
TeacherThe results of the recent test were better than expected. Emily scored seventy-two per cent, which places her in the middle of the class. She has been attending the extra support sessions on Tuesday afternoons, and that has clearly helped.
ParentWould she have reached that score without the extra lessons?
TeacherProbably not. If the sessions had not been offered, she might still be struggling with algebra. The passive constructions in her science reports have also improved because she has been reading more widely.
ParentI am pleased to hear that. Are there any subjects where she continues to find the work demanding?
TeacherFrench remains a challenge. Her oral marks are low because she hesitates when she is asked to speak without preparation. We have suggested that she joins the lunchtime conversation club, but she has not done so yet.
ParentI shall speak to her about that this evening. Thank you for the detailed update.
TeacherYou are welcome. If Emily continues to attend the maths support and starts the French club, her overall progress should become more consistent by the end of term.
