The Forgotten Umbrella

Last Tuesday afternoon, Mia was hurrying through heavy rain in the city centre when she realised she had left her red umbrella on the bus. She had bought it only two weeks earlier and felt annoyed with herself. At the same time, Paul was sitting on that same bus, heading home after work. He noticed the bright red umbrella on the seat beside him and wondered who it belonged to. Because no one nearby claimed it, he decided to take it with him rather than leave it for someone else to grab.

The next morning, Paul took the umbrella to the lost property office at the bus station. The clerk wrote down a description and promised to call if the owner appeared. Meanwhile, Mia had already phoned the bus company twice and described her lost item in detail. She explained that the umbrella had a wooden handle with a small metal tag that said 'Made in Spain'. On Thursday evening, the office finally rang her.

When Mia arrived to collect it, she met Paul, who had returned to check whether anyone had claimed the umbrella. They started talking, and Mia thanked him warmly for his honesty. Paul smiled and said he was glad it had found its owner. Before they parted, Mia offered to buy him a coffee as a small reward. Paul accepted, and they agreed to meet at the cafe near the station the following weekend. As they exchanged numbers, both felt that losing the umbrella had surprisingly led to something pleasant.
