Interview Date Gap
B1InterviewerGood morning, Ms Wells. Thank you for coming in today. I have reviewed your application and I see a gap on your CV between September twenty eighteen and January twenty twenty. What were you doing during those months?
CandidateI was caring for my father after he became unwell. I have already explained this on the form, but I can add more detail if you like.
InterviewerPlease do. We need to understand how you kept your skills up to date.
CandidateWhile I looked after him I carried on studying online courses in project management. If the company offers flexible hours I will complete the final qualification next year.
InterviewerThat sounds sensible. Have you applied for similar posts since then?
CandidateYes, I have sent applications to four other firms. Two of them turned me down because of the same gap, but the others invited me for interviews.
InterviewerWhy did you choose to apply here?
CandidateYour firm has a good reputation for supporting staff who have family commitments. If I join I will be able to balance work and home more easily than before.
InterviewerWe do try to help in those situations. One more question: how many people reported to you in your last role?
CandidateThree team members reported to me. I managed their daily tasks and helped them meet deadlines.
InterviewerThank you. We will let you know our decision by the end of the week.
