2つの物、2つの場所、2人の人を比べて、同じか違うかを言うことができる。

文法
5分比較級の作り方は、形容詞の長さで決まります。

作り方はいつも1つ — -er か more のどちらかで、両方いっしょには使いません：✗ more bigger → ✓ bigger。
2音節の形容詞の一部は -er も取ります：quiet → quieter、simple → simpler、clever → cleverer。1つの母音字のあとに子音字が1つで終わる短い語は、子音字を重ねます： big → bigger、hot → hotter。
4つの形は規則に従わないので、そのまま覚えます：

比較級の前の much は「ずっと、はるかに」という意味です： much cheaper、much better。量を表す much（much water）は第13課で扱います。
比べる相手は than で示します：
This bag is cheaper than that one. Tokyo is bigger than Rome.
than を then（「それから」）と書き間違えないこと：✗ cheaper then that one → ✓ cheaper than that one。
同じと違い：

日本語話者の誤り
あなたの言語向けに作成「より」だけで比べる。
✗ This bag is cheap than that one
✓ This bag is cheaper than that one
。「あのかばんより安い」では「安い」の形は変わらず、比べる働きは「より」だけが担います。英語では than を置くうえに、形容詞も比較級にします。
「もっと」を more にする。
✗ more cheap、✗ more bigger → ✓ cheaper、bigger。「もっと安い」の「もっと」を more と訳しがちですが、短い形容詞は -er だけで比較級になります。 -er か more のどちらか一方で、両方は使いません。
「〜と同じ」「〜と違う」の「と」を with にする。
✗ My phone is same with yours、 ✗ different with yours → ✓ the same as yours、different from yours。the same のあとは as、different のあとは from です。same の前の the も落とさないようにしましょう。
発音
3分語尾の -er は強勢のない /ə/ で、ほとんど飲みこむように短く発音します：bigger /ˈbɪɡə/、 cheaper /ˈtʃiːpə/。強勢は最初の音節に残ります。カタカナの「ビッガー」のように「ー」を長くのばさないようにしましょう。
文の中の than は /ðən/ で、強勢がなく短く発音します：bigger than Rome は /ˈbɪɡə ðən ˈrəʊm/ と聞こえ、強く言うのは Rome だけです。「ザン」とはっきり区切らないようにしましょう。
