日付を言い、誕生日をたずね、手紙に書かれた日付を理解することができる。

文法
4分序数は語尾 -th で作ります。ただし first、second、third と、それを含む複合語（twenty-first、thirty-second）は例外です：

つづり：nine → ninth（e が落ちる）、five → fifth、twelve → twelfth （ve が f に変わる）、twenty → twentieth（y が ie に変わる）。
イギリス式の日付：

前置詞：日付と曜日には on、月と年には in を使います。第10課と同じ規則です。
イギリス式とアメリカ式では書く順番が違います。ここが落とし穴です：

03/05 は、ロンドンでは5月3日、ニューヨークでは3月5日です。このコースではイギリス式の書き方を学びます。日本の書き方（2026/05/03）は年・月・日の順で、月が日の前に来る点はアメリカ式と同じです。イギリスの日付を日本式に読まないよう注意しましょう。
月の名前は大文字で始めます：January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
日本語話者の誤り
あなたの言語向けに作成月の名前を小文字で書く。

✓ in May
。日本語には大文字と小文字の区別がなく、月も「5月」と数字で表すので、月の名前が固有名詞だという感覚がありません。第2課の国籍と同じく、文のどこにあっても大文字で書きます。
日付を基数で言う。

。日本語の「5月3日」は月が先で、日は「3日」と数で言うので、そのまま月のあとに基数を置いてしまいます。英語の日付は序数です。
the と of が抜ける。
✗ on third May
✓ on the third of May
。日本語には冠詞がなく、「5月の3日」とも言わないので、the と of が落ちがちです。話すときは the third of May をまるごと覚えましょう。
月と日付の前置詞。
✗ on May → ✓ in May、✗ in the third of May → ✓ on the third of May。日本語では「5月に」「3日に」とどちらも「に」で済みますが、英語では月なら in、日付なら on です（第10課）。
発音
3分序数の -th は第4課の無声音 /θ/ です。舌先を歯の間に置く、あの音です： fourth /fɔːθ/、fifth /fɪfθ/、sixth /sɪksθ/。
いちばん難しいのは sixth /sɪksθ/ と twelfth /twelfθ/ です：子音が3つ続きます。子音の間に母音を入れずに、ゆっくり発音してください。
