| It takes twenty minutes. | Ci vogliono venti minuti. |
| It takes me twenty minutes to get to work. | Ci metto venti minuti ad arrivare al lavoro. |
| How long does it take? | Quanto tempo ci vuole? |
| It took three days. | Ci sono voluti tre giorni. |
Lo schema è fisso: It takes + a chi + quanto tempo + to + verbo.
It's easy / difficult / important + to + verbo:
| It's easy to order online. | Ordinare online è facile. |
| It's difficult to return things. | È difficile restituire le cose. |
| It's important to keep the receipt. | È importante conservare lo scontrino. |
it e there non sono la stessa cosa, e si confondono di continuo:
| There is a problem. | C'è un problema. (diciamo che esiste) |
| It is a problem. | È un problema. (diciamo che cos'è) |
Errori tipici degli italofoni
adattato alla tua linguaLa frase senza soggetto
«Ci vogliono venti minuti», «è facile ordinare online» → ✗ Takes twenty minutes, ✗ Is easy to order online → ✓ It takes twenty minutes, It's easy to order online. In italiano il soggetto si può omettere, in inglese mai: qui il soggetto è it. È l'errore principale della lezione.
Il verbo senza to
«È facile restituire le cose», «ci vogliono venti minuti per arrivare» → ✗ It's easy return things, ✗ It takes twenty minutes for get to work → ✓ It's easy to return things, It takes twenty minutes to get to work. Dopo It's easy e dopo It takes + tempo il verbo vuole to; e, come nella lezione 21, «per» davanti a un verbo è to, non for.
«Ci metto venti minuti»
✗ I put twenty minutes to get to work
✓ It takes me twenty minutes to get to work
«Metterci» non si traduce con put: il soggetto è it, e la persona va dopo takes.
Pronuncia
3 minit è atono e brevissimo — /ɪt/, e la sua /t/ davanti a una consonante quasi non si sente: It takes me /ɪt ˈteɪks mi/ e It's easy /ɪts ˈiːzi/ si dicono tutto d'un fiato, come una parola sola.
Nella domanda How long does it take? sono atoni sia does sia it: /ˌhaʊ ˈlɒŋ dəzɪt ˈteɪk/.
