| afirmació | I'll be working all day tomorrow. |
| negació | She won't be coming to the meeting. (won't = will not) |
| pregunta | Will you be using the car tonight? |
| resposta curta | Yes, I will. / No, I won't. |
A la resposta curta no es repeteixen be ni el verb en -ing: només will o won't. Els adverbis probably, still, definitely van entre will i be: I'll probably be working late.
Normalment el moment es diu clarament: at ten tomorrow, this time tomorrow («demà a aquesta mateixa hora»), this time next week, all day on Saturday. Don't call at six — I'll be driving. L'acció també pot ocupar tot l'interval: I'll be working all day on Saturday — el dissabte sencer se l'endurà la feina.
Will you be using the printer this afternoon? I tu, quan ja saps els seus plans, pots demanar-li un favor si no li fa res: Will you be using the car tonight? If not, could I borrow it?
La negació té el mateix matís. I won't come to the meeting — «no hi vindré», sona a negativa: no en tinc ganes.
| At eight we'll have dinner. |
| At eight we'll be having dinner.
At half past six I'll be sitting in a café with Anna és la imatge d'aquell moment: què estaré fent.
Amb know, like, want i have en el sentit de «tenir», el will simple: This time next year I'll know much more.
Més exemples:
| This time tomorrow I'll be sitting in an exam. |
| We'll be living in Leeds this time next year. | D'aquí a un any ja viurem a Leeds. |
| Will you be staying for dinner? | Et quedes a sopar? — amb cortesia, sobre els plans |
| I won't be working on Friday. | Divendres no treballo. |
Així no es diu. ✗ Will you be come tomorrow? → ✓ Will you be coming tomorrow?
Posa't a prova. Quina diferència hi ha entre I won't come i I won't be coming? Per què no es pot dir I'll be knowing the results tomorrow?

«No em truquis a les sis, que condueixo» → ✗ Don't call at six — I drive → ✓ Don't call at six — I'll be driving.
Sense be
✗ I'll flying to London at ten
✓ I'll be flying to London at ten
→ ✗ Do you use the car tonight? → ✓ Will you be using the car tonight? En català el present per a un pla proper és normalíssim; en anglès Do you use…? pregunta per un costum. I Will you use the car tonight? sona a petició o a retret.
I won't come com a simple informació
Per informar amb calma: ✓ I won't be coming to the meeting.
Pronunciació
3 min'll be es diu d'una tirada: /l bi/. I'll be working /aɪl bi ˈwɜːkɪŋ/.
A la pregunta Will you be…? les tres primeres paraules són àtones: /wɪl jə bi/. Will you be using the car?
Text
5 minAre you around next week? I need to ask you a favour.
Not really, I'm afraid. I'll be travelling most of the week. I'm flying to Edinburgh on Monday for a conference.
Oh. Will you be using your car next week?
No, it'll be sitting in the garage all week. I'll be taking the train to the airport. Do you want to borrow it?
That would be amazing. My parents are visiting, and I'd like to take them to the coast.
Of course. Just don't phone me on Tuesday morning — I'll be giving my talk at ten.
Good luck! Will you be staying in a hotel?
Yes, near the conference centre. In the evenings I'll probably be working on my slides, but on Thursday we're having dinner in the castle.
Sounds lovely. And how do I get the car keys?
My sister has a spare set. Call her this evening, but not at seven — she'll be swimming then.
And what time does your flight land on Friday?
At six. So at eight I'll be sitting at home with a takeaway, and you'll be telling me all about the coast.
