If you heat water, it boils. Si calientas agua, hierve.
If I work late, I get tired. Cuando trabajo hasta tarde, me canso.

Las dos partes van en presente. En lugar de if aquí se usa a menudo when, con el mismo sentido.

El primer condicional: un futuro concreto:

If it rains, I'll stay at home. Si llueve, me quedaré en casa.
If you come early, we'll have time.

✗ ✓
If it will rain… If it rains…

If it rains, I'll stay at home. = I'll stay at home if it rains.

En el primer condicional if y when no son lo mismo: when I come home: llegaré seguro; if I come home early: quizá sí, quizá no.

Errores de los hispanohablantes

escrito para tu idioma
1

La condición sin sujeto

«Si llueve», «si nieva» → ✗ If rains, I'll stay at home, ✗ If snows… → ✓ If it rains…, If it snows… Como en A1 #26: el tiempo lleva siempre it, también detrás de if. Y en la otra parte, igual: ✗ If you heat water, boils → ✓ If you heat water, it boils.

2

«Si hace buen tiempo» palabra por palabra

✗ If it makes good weather

✓ If the weather is good

3

will detrás de when

When I will come home, I'll call you → ✓ When I come home, I'll call you.

3 min
