Tempo declarado do núcleo.
| If you heat water, it boils. | Se você esquenta a água, ela ferve. |
| If I work late, I get tired. | Quando eu trabalho até tarde, fico cansado. |
As duas partes vão no presente. No lugar de if aqui muitas vezes vem when, com o mesmo sentido.
Primeiro tipo (first conditional) — um futuro concreto:
| If it rains, I'll stay at home. | Se chover, vou ficar em casa. |
| If you come early, we'll have time. | Se você vier cedo, vamos ter tempo. |
| ✗ | ✓ |
|---|---|
| If it will rain… | If it rains… |
If it rains, I'll stay at home. = I'll stay at home if it rains.
No primeiro tipo if e when são coisas diferentes: when I come home — vou chegar com certeza; if I come home early — talvez sim, talvez não.
Erros de quem fala português do Brasil
escrito para o seu idiomaO futuro depois de if e when
“Se chover”, “quando eu chegar em casa” → ✗ If it will rain, I'll stay at home, ✗ When I will come home, I'll call you → ✓ If it rains, I'll stay at home, When I come home, I'll call you.
A condição sem it
“Se chover”, “se nevar” → ✗ If rains…, ✗ If snows… → ✓ If it rains…, If it snows… Como na lição A1 #26: o tempo sempre pede it, também depois de if.
O presente nas duas partes
“Se chover amanhã, eu fico em casa” → ✗ If it rains tomorrow, I stay at home → ✓ If it rains tomorrow, I'll stay at home. If you heat water, it boils.
Texto
3 minIf it rains tomorrow, we'll stay at home and watch a film. If the weather is good, we'll go to the park. I always take an umbrella when I go to London — if you don't take one, it rains. If you come before seven, we'll have time for coffee.
