If you heat water, it boils. Se si scalda l'acqua, bolle.
If I work late, I get tired.

If it rains, I'll stay at home. Se piove, starò a casa.
If you come early, we'll have time.

✗ ✓
If it will rain… If it rains…

If it rains, I'll stay at home. = I'll stay at home if it rains.

if e when nel primo tipo non sono la stessa cosa: when I come home — tornerò di sicuro; if I come home early — forse sì, forse no.

Errori tipici degli italofoni

adattato alla tua lingua
1

Il futuro dopo if

«Se pioverà, starò a casa» → ✗ If it will rain, I'll stay at home → ✓ If it rains, I'll stay at home; ✗ If you will come, I will be happy → ✓ If you come, I'll be happy.

«Se domani piove, resto a casa» → ✗ If it rains tomorrow, I stay at home → ✓ If it rains tomorrow, I'll stay at home. If you heat water, it boils.

3

Il futuro dopo when

«Quando tornerò a casa, ti chiamerò» → ✗ When I will come home, I'll call you → ✓ When I come home, I'll call you.

4

La condizione senza it

«Se piove», «se nevica» → ✗ If rains…, ✗ If snows… → ✓ If it rains…, If it snows… Come nella lezione A1 #26: il tempo atmosferico vuole sempre it, anche dopo if.

Pronuncia

3 min
