It depends on the weather. I'm waiting for the bus. I don't agree with you.
| I'm waiting for Tom. | Who are you waiting for? |
| It depends on the price. | What does it depend on? |
| This bag belongs to Anna. | Who does this bag belong to? |
| They're talking about the new manager. | Who are they talking about? |
|---|---|---|
| for | 얻고 싶은 것 | wait for, look for (찾다), ask for, apply for, pay for |
| to | 향하는 상대 | listen to, talk to, belong to, reply to, happen to |
| about | 주제 | think about, talk about, worry about, complain about |
| on | 기대는 곳 | depend on, concentrate on, spend money on |
| at | 바라보는 지점 | look at, laugh at, point at |
| with | 함께하는 상대 | agree with, argue with |
| of | 무엇으로 | consist of |
물건값을 낼 때는 for: pay for the coffee. 하지만 계산서, 사람, 금액은 전치사 없이 씁니다: pay the bill, pay the waiter, pay ten pounds.
| I'm looking for my keys. | |
| Look at this photo! | |
| She looks after her grandmother. |
어떤 동사는 목적어가 둘이고, 전치사는 두 번째 목적어 앞에 옵니다: thank someone for something, ask someone for something, spend money on something, borrow something from someone. Thanks for your help. I asked my boss for a day off. We spent too much on the hotel.
Can you explain the rule to me? Can you explain to me how it works? describe something to someone, say something to someone도 같은 방식입니다.
|---|---|---|
| discuss about the plan | discuss the plan | 계획에 대해 논의하다 |
| enter into the room | enter the room | 방에 들어가다 |
| answer to the question | answer the question | 질문에 답하다 |
| marry with him | marry him | 그와 결혼하다 |
| phone to her | phone her | 그녀에게 전화하다 |
| reach to the station | reach the station | 역에 도착하다 |
| join to the club | join the club | 동아리에 가입하다 |
| the reason for the delay | 지연의 이유 |
| the answer to the question | 질문에 대한 답 |
| a solution to the problem | 문제의 해결책 |
| the key to the door | 문 열쇠 |
| an invitation to the party | 파티 초대 |
| an interest in history | 역사에 대한 관심 |
| the difference between them | 둘 사이의 차이 |
| a problem with the car | 차의 문제 |
| good at / bad at | She's good at maths. |
| interested in | I'm interested in history. |
| afraid of | He's afraid of dogs. |
| proud of | We're proud of our daughter. |
| tired of | I'm tired of waiting. |
| keen on | He's keen on football. |
| worried about | They're worried about money. |
| angry with 사람, about 일 | She was angry with me about the car. |
| pleased with | I'm pleased with the result. |
| different from | My job is different from yours. |
| famous for | The town is famous for its cheese. |
| full of | The room was full of people. |
| married to | She's married to a doctor. |
이 가운데 많은 것이 B1 26과의 -ed 형태입니다: interested in, worried about, disappointed with. 형용사는 같은 뿌리의 동사나 명사와 전치사가 같을 때가 많습니다: worry about — worried about, an interest in — interested in. tired와 tired of는 다른 것입니다: I'm tired — '나는 피곤하다', I'm tired of it — '그게 지겹다'. keen on은 아주 영국적인 표현입니다: I'm not keen on spicy food — '매운 음식은 별로 안 좋아해'. different from 대신 영국 영어에서는 different to도 자주 씁니다; 이것도 맞습니다.
| Please answer the question. |
| What's the answer to the question? | 명사 — to와 함께 |
| We discussed the plan. |
| We had a discussion about the plan. | 명사 — about과 함께 |
(I'm thinking about moving, Thanks for coming, She insisted on paying(B1 16과))든, 형용사 뒤의 전치사(good at cooking, afraid of flying, tired of waiting)든.

| I agree with you, but it depends on the price. | |
| What happened to your car? | |
| He spent all his money on books. | |
| The team consists of six people.
✗ What are you waiting? → ✓ What are you waiting for?
We discussed about the price에서 무엇이 틀렸습니까? good, afraid, proud 뒤에는 어떤 전치사가 옵니까?

✗ I listen music → ✓ I listen to music. ✗ We waited the bus → ✓ We waited for the bus.
'에 대해'를 about으로
✗ discuss about the plan
✓ discuss the plan
'에', '와'를 to, with로
✗ answer to the question, ✗ marry with him → ✓ answer the question, marry him. ✗ She's married with a doctor → ✓ She's married to a doctor도 같은 경우입니다. married with children이라는 표현은 있지만, '결혼해서 아이가 있다'라는 다른 뜻입니다.
explain me
✗ Explain me the rule → ✓ Explain the rule to me. ✗ Can you explain me how it works? → ✓ Can you explain to me how it works? '나에게 설명해 줘'의 '나에게'를 give me, show me처럼 동사 바로 뒤에 놓습니다.
✗ the reason of the delay
✓ the reason for the delay
하지만 명사마다 정해진 전치사가 있고, 그것이 언제나 of인 것은 아닙니다: a solution to the problem.
발음
3분문장 가운데서 전치사는 강세가 없습니다: for /fə/, to /tə/, at /ət/, of /əv/, from /frəm/. I'm waiting for the bus — /aɪm ˈweɪtɪŋ fə ðə ˈbʌs/.
Who are you waiting for? — /fɔː/, Who does it belong to? — /tuː/, What are you looking at? — /æt/.
동사와 전치사는 한 단어처럼 이어집니다: depends on /dɪˈpendz ɒn/, look at /ˈlʊk ət/, listen to /ˈlɪsn tə/ — listen의 t는 읽지 않습니다.
본문
5분Hi Sam,
Thanks for your message, and sorry I didn't reply to it sooner — it's been a busy week.
You asked about the job in Bristol. I applied for it at the start of the month, and on Monday I had the interview. They asked me a lot of questions about my last job and my reasons for leaving it. The answer to the last question took me ages: "What are you most proud of?" I'm still waiting for their decision, and I'm not very good at waiting. It depends on two things — how many other people they've interviewed and whether the manager agrees with me about the salary. We discussed it for half an hour, and I'm not sure we found a solution to the problem.
If I get the job, we'll have to look for a flat in Bristol. Anna doesn't worry about things like that, but I do. And who's going to look after Mum? She hates asking anyone for help, and she never listens to anybody but me.
Anyway, enough about me. What are you working on at the moment? And have you found out who that old bike in your garden belongs to?
Love, Kate
