La preposició va just darrere del verb, i després ve allò a què es refereix l'acció: It depends on the weather. I'm waiting for the bus.
| I'm waiting for Tom. | Who are you waiting for? |
| It depends on the price. | What does it depend on? |
| This bag belongs to Anna. | Who does this bag belong to? |
| They're talking about the new manager. | Who are they talking about? |
|---|---|---|
| for | el que es vol obtenir | wait for, look for (buscar), ask for, apply for, pay for |
| to | cap a qui va adreçat | listen to, talk to, belong to, reply to, happen to |
| about | el tema | think about, talk about, worry about, complain about |
| on | el suport | depend on, concentrate on, spend money on |
| at | el punt on es mira | look at, laugh at, point at |
| with | amb qui | agree with, argue with |
| of | de què | consist of |
| I'm looking for my keys. | Busco les claus. |
| Look at this photo! | Mira aquesta foto! |
| She looks after her grandmother. | Cuida la seva àvia. |
Verb + a qui + preposició. Alguns verbs tenen dos complements, i la preposició va davant del segon: thank someone for something, ask someone for something, spend money on something, borrow something from someone. Thanks for your help. I asked my boss for a day off. We spent too much on the hotel.
Can you explain the rule to me? O bé: Can you explain to me how it works? Igual funcionen describe something to someone i say something to someone.
|---|---|---|
| discuss about the plan | discuss the plan | parlar del pla |
| enter into the room | enter the room | entrar a l'habitació |
| answer to the question | answer the question | respondre a la pregunta |
| marry with him | marry him | casar-se amb ell |
| phone to her | phone her | trucar a la Maria |
| reach to the station | reach the station | arribar a l'estació |
| join to the club | join the club | entrar al club |
| the reason for the delay | la raó del retard |
| the answer to the question | la resposta a la pregunta |
| a solution to the problem | una solució al problema |
| the key to the door | la clau de la porta |
| an invitation to the party | una invitació a la festa |
| an interest in history | interès per la història |
| the difference between them | la diferència entre ells |
| a problem with the car | un problema amb el cotxe |
Adjectius amb preposició. La tercera part del mateix sistema. Darrere de molts adjectius també va una preposició pròpia, i a partir del català no l'endevinaràs: «bo en matemàtiques» — good at maths, «casada amb un metge» — married to a doctor. La combinació s'aprèn sencera:
| good at / bad at | She's good at maths. |
| interested in | I'm interested in history. |
| afraid of | He's afraid of dogs. |
| proud of | We're proud of our daughter. |
| tired of | I'm tired of waiting. — Estic cansat d'esperar. |
| keen on | He's keen on football. — És un gran afeccionat al futbol. |
| worried about | They're worried about money. |
| angry with algú, about una cosa | She was angry with me about the car. |
| pleased with | I'm pleased with the result. |
| different from | My job is different from yours. |
| famous for | The town is famous for its cheese. |
| full of | The room was full of people. |
| married to | She's married to a doctor. |
Molts són formes en -ed de la B1 #26: interested in, worried about, disappointed with. Sovint l'adjectiu porta la mateixa preposició que el verb o el nom de la mateixa família: worry about — worried about, an interest in — interested in. tired i tired of són coses diferents: I'm tired — «estic cansat», I'm tired of it — «n'estic fart». keen on és una combinació molt britànica: I'm not keen on spicy food — «el menjar picant no m'entusiasma».
| Please answer the question. | verb — sense preposició |
| What's the answer to the question? | nom — amb to |
| We discussed the plan. | verb — sense preposició |
| We had a discussion about the plan. | nom — amb about |
Darrere d'una preposició, el verb va en la forma en -ing — darrere de qualsevol: la d'un verb, com a I'm thinking about moving, Thanks for coming, She insisted on paying (B1 #16), i la d'un adjectiu: good at cooking, afraid of flying, tired of waiting.
Més exemples:
| I agree with you, but it depends on the price. |
| What happened to your car? | Què li va passar al teu cotxe? |
| He spent all his money on books. |
| The team consists of six people. | L'equip consta de sis persones. |
Així no es diu. ✗ What are you waiting? → ✓ What are you waiting for?
Posa't a prova. Com es diu «Depèn del temps»? Què falla a We discussed about the price? Quines preposicions van darrere de good, afraid i proud?

Errors dels parlants de català
adaptada al teu idiomaLa preposició del català
✗ It depends of the weather → ✓ It depends on the weather. ✗ I'm thinking in changing my job → ✓ I'm thinking about changing my job. ✗ I worry for him → ✓ I worry about him. «Dependre de», «pensar en», «preocupar-se per»: la preposició catalana passa directament a l'anglès, i surten of, in i for.
✗ I listen music → ✓ I listen to music. ✗ We waited the bus → ✓ We waited for the bus. ✗ Look this photo! → ✓ Look at this photo! ✗ I paid the coffee → ✓ I paid for the coffee.
✗ discuss about the plan
✗ enter in the room
✗ answer to the question
✗ marry with him
✓ discuss the plan
enter the room, answer the question, marry him.
explain me
✗ Explain me the rule → ✓ Explain the rule to me. ✗ Can you explain me how it works? → ✓ Can you explain to me how it works? A «explica'm» el pronom s'enganxa al verb, com a give me i show me.
✗ good in maths → ✓ good at maths («bo en matemàtiques»). ✗ married with a doctor → ✓ married to a doctor («casada amb un metge»). ✗ the reason of the delay → ✓ the reason for the delay («la raó del retard»). ✗ the key of the door → ✓ the key to the door.
3 minDins de la frase la preposició és àtona: for /fə/, to /tə/, at /ət/, of /əv/, from /frəm/. I'm waiting for the bus — /aɪm ˈweɪtɪŋ fə ðə ˈbʌs/.
Who are you waiting for? — /fɔː/, Who does it belong to? — /tuː/, What are you looking at?
Text
5 minHi Sam,
Thanks for your message, and sorry I didn't reply to it sooner — it's been a busy week.
You asked about the job in Bristol. I applied for it at the start of the month, and on Monday I had the interview. They asked me a lot of questions about my last job and my reasons for leaving it. The answer to the last question took me ages: "What are you most proud of?" I'm still waiting for their decision, and I'm not very good at waiting. It depends on two things — how many other people they've interviewed and whether the manager agrees with me about the salary. We discussed it for half an hour, and I'm not sure we found a solution to the problem.
If I get the job, we'll have to look for a flat in Bristol. Anna doesn't worry about things like that, but I do. And who's going to look after Mum? She hates asking anyone for help, and she never listens to anybody but me.
Anyway, enough about me. What are you working on at the moment? And have you found out who that old bike in your garden belongs to?
Love, Kate
