문법
15분A2 13과에서 여러분은 얼마나 많은지를 말했습니다: a lot of work, a few days, not much time.
|---|---|---|
| all | 모두, 전부 | All of my friends came to the party. |
| most | 대부분 | Most of the guests left before midnight. |
| half | 절반 | Half of the tickets have already gone. |
| many | 많은 사람, 많은 것 | Many of my colleagues live outside London. |
| some | 일부, 몇몇 | Some of them work at weekends. |
| a few | 몇몇 | A few of us stayed to help. |
| none | 하나도, 아무도 (~않다) | None of the shops were open. |
|---|---|---|
| both | 둘 다 | Both of my parents are teachers. |
| either | 둘 중 어느 쪽이든 | Either of these days is fine for me. |
| neither | 둘 중 어느 쪽도 (~않다) | Neither of the answers is right. |
of가 필요할 때. 비율을 나타내는 말은 명사 바로 앞에 놓을 수 있습니다: most people, some students, all children. 하지만 구체적인, 이미 알려진 무리 — the students, my friends, these books, us, them — 에 대해 말할 때는 비율을 나타내는 말과 무리 사이에 of가 들어갑니다:
|---|---|
| Most people like holidays. | Most of the people in my street have a car. |
| Some students work at night. | Some of my students work at night. |
| All children need sleep. | All of us were tired. |
| No shops are open on Christmas Day. | None of the shops were open. |
'우리가 말하고 있는 그 학생들 가운데 대부분' — most of the students. 여기서 확인하는 법이 나옵니다: of 뒤에는 반드시 the, my, these, those나 대명사가 옵니다.
대명사와 함께라면 of는 언제나 필요합니다: all of us, both of them, none of it, most of you.
all, both, half에는 예외적인 자유가 있습니다: the와 my 앞에서는 of를 생략할 수 있습니다. all the students = all of the students, both my parents = both of my parents, half the class. 나머지 단어는 그렇게 할 수 없습니다: most of the students, some of my friends만 됩니다.
주어 뒤의 all과 both. We all agreed. My parents are both teachers. The guests have all gone home.
none과 no. no는 명사 바로 앞에 옵니다: No students came. none은 of 앞에 오거나, 대답에서처럼 혼자 씁니다: None of the students came. — How many tickets are left? — None. 두 단어 모두 이미 부정을 담고 있으므로, 그 뒤의 동사는 긍정형입니다: None of them came.
None of my three brothers lives here — neither가 아닙니다. of 없는 either와 neither 뒤에는 단수가 옵니다: either day, neither answer. of와 함께라면 복수입니다: neither of the answers.
I don't like either of them = I like neither of them — '둘 다 마음에 들지 않는다'.
neither는 이미 다른 두 가지 역할로 만났습니다: neither … nor(B1 6과)와 Neither do I(B1 20과).
a few와 few, a little와 little.
| I've got a few friends in Leeds, so I'm never lonely. |
| I've got few friends in Leeds, so I'm often lonely. |
| We've got a little time — let's have a coffee. |
| We've got little time — hurry up.
그 대신 보통 not many, not much나 only a few라고 합니다: I haven't got many friends here. Quite a few of my colleagues cycle to work.
동사. most of, some of, all of, half of 뒤에서 동사는 of 뒤의 명사에 맞춥니다: Most of the students are here, 하지만 Most of the money was spent. of Half of the class has been to Spain(반을 하나의 단위로 볼 때)과 Half of the class have been to Spain(반에 있는 사람들을 볼 때). none of, neither of, either of 뒤에서도 둘 다 맞습니다: None of us is perfect와 None of us are perfect, Neither of them knows와 Neither of them know.

| None of us knew the answer. | |
| Both of my sisters live abroad. | |
| Monday or Tuesday? Either day is fine. |
✗ all us, ✗ both they → ✓ all of us, both of them. ✗ most the students → ✓ most of the students.

✗ Most of students work
✓ Most students work
Most of the students in my group work(구체적인 학생들). 하지만 영어의 of 뒤에는 the, my나 대명사가 와야 합니다.
'거의 모든'을 almost로
✗ Almost people prefer tea
✓ Most people prefer tea
✗ None of them didn't come → ✓ None of them came. ✗ Neither of us didn't know → ✓ Neither of us knew.
'모두 안 왔다'를 all … not으로
All of my friends didn't come이라고 하면, 영어로는 '친구들이 다 온 것은 아니다'(몇 명은 왔다)로 들리기 쉽습니다. 한 명도 오지 않았다면 ✓ None of my friends came, 두 사람이라면 ✓ Neither of them came.
a few의 a를 빠뜨림
I have few friends here를 '여기 친구가 몇 명 있다'라는 뜻으로 말하면 — 문장은 맞지만 뜻이 다릅니다: '친구가 거의 없다', 외롭다는 불평입니다.
MOST of the STUdents /ˈməʊst əv ðə ˈstjuːdnts/, SOME of them /ˈsʌm əv ðəm/. all of us는 한 단어처럼 이어집니다: /ˈɔːl əv əs/.
a few의 a를 삼키지 마십시오. /ə ˈfjuː/와 /fjuː/: 약한 소리 하나가 '몇몇'과 '거의 없다'를 가릅니다. a little /ə ˈlɪtl/도 마찬가지입니다.
none은 one, sun과 운이 맞습니다: /nʌn/ — 철자대로 '논'이 아닙니다. both는 /bəʊθ/ — 끝은 think의 /θ/이고, '보스'가 아닙니다. either와 neither는 두 가지로 발음합니다(B1 6과): /ˈaɪðə/ 또는 /ˈiːðə/, /ˈnaɪðə/ 또는 /ˈniːðə/.
There are twelve of us in our Tuesday evening Spanish class, and last week our teacher gave us a short survey about our lives. Here are the results.
Most of us work full-time, and a few work part-time. None of us are students any more — the youngest person in the group is twenty-nine. Half of the class have been to Spain at least once, but only two people have lived there: Paul and Ruth. Both of them spent a year in Madrid, and neither of them wants to go back to an office job.
All of us have busy evenings, so homework is a problem. Some people do it on the train in the morning, and some hardly do it at all. Few of us practise speaking outside the class, and that's the biggest weakness of the group. We have a little time before the exam in June, so our teacher has a plan: every week, two of us are going to meet for a coffee and speak only Spanish. We'll meet on Mondays or Wednesdays — either day is fine for most people.
I asked my partner, Jenny, if she was nervous about the exam. "Not really," she said. "Most exams are easier than people think. And all of my friends who took it last year passed."
