A2の第13課では、どれだけあるかを言いました:a lot of work、a few days、not much time。

All of my friends came to the party.
Most of the guests left before midnight.
half 半分 Half of the tickets have already gone.
Many of my colleagues live outside London.
Some of them work at weekends.
A few of us stayed to help.
None of the shops were open.

Both of my parents are teachers.
Either of these days is fine for me.
Neither of the answers is right.

割合の語は、名詞の直前に置くことができます:most people、some students、all children。 一方、特定の、もうわかっているグループ — the students、my friends、these books、us、them — の話なら、割合の語とグループの間に of が入ります:

Most people like holidays. Most of the people in my street have a car.
Some students work at night. Some of my students work at night.
All children need sleep. All of us were tired.
No shops are open on Christmas Day. None of the shops were open.

「今話している学生たちのうちの大部分」— most of the students。

代名詞といっしょなら、of はいつも必要です:all of us、both of them、none of it、most of you。

all、both、half だけは自由がききます:the や my の前では of を省けます。all the students = all of the students、both my parents = both of my parents、half the class。ほかの語ではそうはできません:most of the students、some of my friends だけです。

We all agreed. My parents are both teachers. The guests have all gone home.

none と no。 no は名詞の直前に置きます:No students came. none は of の前か、答えの中でひとりで使います:None of the students came. — How many tickets are left? — None. neither … nor(第6課)や nobody(A2の第14課)と同じ決まりです。

3つ以上なら all、 any、none です:None of my three brothers lives here で、neither ではありません。either と neither のあとに of がなければ、名詞は単数形です:either day、neither answer。of があれば複数形です:neither of the answers。

I don't like either of them = I like neither of them — 「どちらも好きではない」。

a few と few、a little と little。 a few(数えられる名詞)と a little(数えられない名詞)は「いくつか」「少し」で、それで足りています。

I've got a few friends in Leeds, so I'm never lonely.
I've got few friends in Leeds, so I'm often lonely.
We've got a little time — let's have a coffee.
We've got little time — hurry up.

代わりにふつうは not many、not much、only a few を使います:I haven't got many friends here. Quite a few of my colleagues cycle to work.

most of、some of、all of、half of のあとの動詞は、of のあとの名詞に合わせます: Most of the students are here、でも Most of the money was spent。 Half of the class has been to Spain(クラスを1つのまとまりとして見る)と Half of the class have been to Spain(クラスの中の人たちを見る)。none of、neither of、either of None of us is perfect と None of us are perfect、Neither of them knows と Neither of them know。

Most of my colleagues come to work by train.
Some of the questions were really difficult.
Half of the class have been to Spain.
None of us knew the answer.
Both of my sisters live abroad.
Monday or Tuesday? Either day is fine.

✗ all us、✗ both they → ✓ all of us、both of them。✗ most the students → ✓ most of the students。

I have a few friends here と I have few friends here はどう違いますか。

Most of my friends live in London; Neither of the answers is right / Neither answer is right.

✗ Most of students work

✓ Most students work

Most of the students in my group work(特定の学生)。

✗ Almost my friends live in London

✓ Most of my friends live in London / Almost all my friends live in London

✗ None of them didn't come → ✓ None of them came。✗ Neither of us didn't know → ✓ Neither of us knew。

✗ Both of them didn't come → ✓ Neither of them came。✗ All of us didn't know the answer → ✓ None of us knew the answer。

I have few friends here

MOST of the STUdents /ˈməʊst əv ðə ˈstjuːdnts/、SOME of them /ˈsʌm əv ðəm/。all of us は1語のようにつなげます:/ˈɔːl əv əs/。

a little /ə ˈlɪtl/ も同じです。

either と neither には2通りの発音があります(第6課):/ˈaɪðə/ か /ˈiːðə/、/ˈnaɪðə/ か /ˈniːðə/。

There are twelve of us in our Tuesday evening Spanish class, and last week our teacher gave us a short survey about our lives. Here are the results.

Most of us work full-time, and a few work part-time. None of us are students any more — the youngest person in the group is twenty-nine. Half of the class have been to Spain at least once, but only two people have lived there: Paul and Ruth. Both of them spent a year in Madrid, and neither of them wants to go back to an office job.

All of us have busy evenings, so homework is a problem. Some people do it on the train in the morning, and some hardly do it at all. Few of us practise speaking outside the class, and that's the biggest weakness of the group. We have a little time before the exam in June, so our teacher has a plan: every week, two of us are going to meet for a coffee and speak only Spanish. We'll meet on Mondays or Wednesdays — either day is fine for most people.

I asked my partner, Jenny, if she was nervous about the exam. "Not really," she said. "Most exams are easier than people think. And all of my friends who took it last year passed."

There are fifteen people in my team at work. Most of us live in the city, but a few of my colleagues come in from the countryside. Half of the team have children. None of us are older than fifty. Both of our managers speak French, and neither of them drives to work. Few of us take a proper lunch break — we're always too busy.
