15 मिनटA2 के पाठ 13 में आपने बताया था कि कोई चीज़ कितनी है: a lot of work, a few days, not much time।
|---|---|---|
| all | सब, सारा | All of my friends came to the party. |
| most | ज़्यादातर | Most of the guests left before midnight. |
| half | आधा | Half of the tickets have already gone. |
| many | बहुत-से | Many of my colleagues live outside London. |
| some | कुछ, एक हिस्सा | Some of them work at weekends. |
| a few | कुछ, थोड़े-से | A few of us stayed to help. |
| none | एक भी नहीं, कोई नहीं, कुछ नहीं | None of the shops were open. |
|---|---|---|
| both | दोनों | Both of my parents are teachers. |
| either | दोनों में से कोई भी | Either of these days is fine for me. |
| neither | दोनों में से कोई नहीं | Neither of the answers is right. |
of कब चाहिए। हिस्से वाला शब्द सीधे संज्ञा से पहले आ सकता है: most people, some students, all children। पर अगर बात किसी विशिष्ट, जाने-पहचाने समूह की है — the students, my friends, these books, us, them, — तो हिस्से वाले शब्द और समूह के बीच of आता है:
|---|---|
| Most people like holidays. | Most of the people in my street have a car. |
| Some students work at night. | Some of my students work at night. |
| All children need sleep. | All of us were tired. |
| No shops are open on Christmas Day. | None of the shops were open. |
“उन छात्रों में से ज़्यादातर, जिनकी हम बात कर रहे हैं” — most of the students। इसलिए जाँच: of के बाद ज़रूर the, my, these, those या सर्वनाम आता है।
सर्वनाम के साथ of हमेशा चाहिए: all of us, both of them, none of it, most of you।
all, both और half को एक छूट है: the और my से पहले of छोड़ा जा सकता है। all the students = all of the students, both my parents = both of my parents, half the class। बाकी शब्दों के साथ ऐसा नहीं होता: केवल most of the students, some of my friends।
We all agreed. My parents are both teachers. The guests have all gone home.
none और no। No students came. none — of None of the students came. — How many tickets are left? — None.
None of my three brothers lives here, neither नहीं। of के बिना either और neither के बाद एकवचन आता है: either day, neither answer। of के साथ — बहुवचन: neither of the answers।
I don't like either of them = I like neither of them — “मुझे दोनों में से कोई पसंद नहीं।”
a few और few, a little और little।
| I've got a few friends in Leeds, so I'm never lonely. |
| I've got few friends in Leeds, so I'm often lonely. |
| We've got a little time — let's have a coffee. |
| We've got little time — hurry up.
उनकी जगह आम तौर पर not many, not much या only a few कहते हैं: I haven't got many friends here. Quite a few of my colleagues cycle to work.
most of, some of, all of, half of के बाद क्रिया of के बाद वाली संज्ञा के हिसाब से चलती है: Most of the students are here, पर Most of the money was spent। Half of the class has been to Spain Half of the class have been to Spain (उसके लोग)। none of, neither of और either of के बाद भी दोनों सही हैं: None of us is perfect और None of us are perfect, Neither of them knows और Neither of them know।
| Most of my colleagues come to work by train. | |
| Some of the questions were really difficult. | |
| Half of the class have been to Spain. | |
| None of us knew the answer. | |
| Both of my sisters live abroad. | |
| Monday or Tuesday? Either day is fine. |
✗ all us, ✗ both they → ✓ all of us, both of them। ✗ most the students → ✓ most of the students।
I have a few friends here और I have few friends here

✗ Most of students work
✓ Most students work
Most of the students in my group work (विशिष्ट छात्र)। पर अंग्रेज़ी of अपने बाद the, my या सर्वनाम माँगता है।
✗ Maximum people prefer tea
✓ Most people prefer tea
“दोनों नहीं” — both और not।
✗ Both of them didn't come
✓ Neither of them came
a few की जगह few।
I have few friends here — वाक्य सही है, पर इसका अर्थ “यहाँ मेरे कुछ दोस्त हैं” नहीं, बल्कि “यहाँ मेरे दोस्त बहुत कम हैं” — अकेलेपन की शिकायत।
MOST of the STUdents /ˈməʊst əv ðə ˈstjuːdnts/, SOME of them /ˈsʌm əv ðəm/। all of us एक शब्द की तरह जुड़ जाता है: /ˈɔːl əv əs/।
a few में a को मत निगलिए। a little /ə ˈlɪtl/ के साथ भी यही।
either और neither दो तरह से बोले जाते हैं (B1 का पाठ 6): /ˈaɪðə/ या /ˈiːðə/, /ˈnaɪðə/ या /ˈniːðə/।
There are twelve of us in our Tuesday evening Spanish class, and last week our teacher gave us a short survey about our lives. Here are the results.
Most of us work full-time, and a few work part-time. None of us are students any more — the youngest person in the group is twenty-nine. Half of the class have been to Spain at least once, but only two people have lived there: Paul and Ruth. Both of them spent a year in Madrid, and neither of them wants to go back to an office job.
All of us have busy evenings, so homework is a problem. Some people do it on the train in the morning, and some hardly do it at all. Few of us practise speaking outside the class, and that's the biggest weakness of the group. We have a little time before the exam in June, so our teacher has a plan: every week, two of us are going to meet for a coffee and speak only Spanish. We'll meet on Mondays or Wednesdays — either day is fine for most people.
I asked my partner, Jenny, if she was nervous about the exam. "Not really," she said. "Most exams are easier than people think. And all of my friends who took it last year passed."

There are fifteen people in my team at work. Most of us live in the city, but a few of my colleagues come in from the countryside. Half of the team have children. None of us are older than fifty. Both of our managers speak French, and neither of them drives to work. Few of us take a proper lunch break — we're always too busy.
