في A2 #13 كنتَ تقول كم من الشيء: a lot of work، a few days، not much time.

all الجميع، الكلّ All of my friends came to the party.
most معظم، أغلب Most of the guests left before midnight.
half نصف Half of the tickets have already gone.
many كثيرون Many of my colleagues live outside London.
some بعض، جزء Some of them work at weekends.
a few بضعة A few of us stayed to help.
None of the shops were open.

both كلا الاثنين Both of my parents are teachers.
Either of these days is fine for me.
Neither of the answers is right.

متى تلزم of. يمكن أن تقف كلمة النسبة قبل الاسم مباشرةً: most people، some students، all children. أما إن كان الكلام عن مجموعة محدَّدة معروفة — the students، my friends، these books، us، them — فتقف of بين كلمة النسبة والمجموعة:

Most people like holidays. Most of the people in my street have a car.
Some students work at night. Some of my students work at night.
All children need sleep. All of us were tired.
No shops are open on Christmas Day. None of the shops were open.

«معظمٌ من أولئك الطلاب الذين نتحدّث عنهم» — most of the students. ومن هنا الاختبار: بعد of لا بدّ من the أو my أو these أو those أو ضمير.

ومع الضمير تلزم of دائماً: all of us، both of them، none of it، most of you.

ولـall وboth وhalf رخصة: قبل the وmy يجوز حذف of. all the students = all of the students، both my parents = both of my parents، half the class. أما باقي الكلمات فلا: most of the students وsome of my friends فقط.

all وboth بعد الفاعل. We all agreed. My parents are both teachers. The guests have all gone home.

none وno. no تقف قبل الاسم مباشرةً: No students came. None of the students came. — How many tickets are left? — None. كلتا الكلمتين تحمل النفي في ذاتها، ولذلك يأتي الفعل بعدهما مثبتاً: None of them came.

وإن كان الأشخاص أو الأشياء ثلاثة فأكثر، فتلزم all وany وnone: None of my three brothers lives here، لا neither. بعد either وneither بلا of يأتي المفرد: either day، neither answer. ومع of — الجمع: neither of the answers.

I don't like either of them = I like neither of them — «لا يعجبني أيٌّ من الاثنين».

neither قابلتَها في دورين آخرين: neither … nor (B1 #6) وNeither do I (B1 #20).

a few وfew، a little وlittle.

I've got a few friends in Leeds, so I'm never lonely.
I've got few friends in Leeds, so I'm often lonely.
We've got a little time — let's have a coffee.
We've got little time — hurry up.

وبدلاً منهما يُقال عادةً not many وnot much أو only a few: I haven't got many friends here. Quite a few of my colleagues cycle to work.

بعد most of وsome of وall of وhalf of ينظر الفعل إلى الاسم الذي بعد of: Most of the students are here، لكن Most of the money was spent. Half of the class has been to Spain Half of the class have been to Spain (الناس فيه). وبعد none of وneither of وeither of يصحّ الاثنان أيضاً: None of us is perfect وNone of us are perfect، Neither of them knows وNeither of them know.

Most of my colleagues come to work by train.
Some of the questions were really difficult.
Half of the class have been to Spain.
None of us knew the answer.
Both of my sisters live abroad.
Monday or Tuesday? Either day is fine.

✗ all us، ✗ both they → ✓ all of us، both of them. ✗ most the students → ✓ most of the students.

I have a few friends here عن I have few friends here؟

Most of my friends live in London; Neither of the answers is right / Neither answer is right.

✗ Most of students work

✓ Most students work

Most of the students in my group work (طلاب محدَّدون). لكن of الإنجليزية تتطلّب بعدها the أو my أو ضميراً.

2

the most بمعنى «معظم»

✗ The most of people prefer tea

✓ Most people prefer tea

لكن the most في الإنجليزية صيغة تفضيل فقط (A2 #8): the most expensive — «الأغلى».

3

✗ None of them didn't come → ✓ None of them came. ✗ Neither of us didn't know → ✓ Neither of us knew.

✗ Neither of my three brothers drives

✓ None of my three brothers drives

5

few بدل a few

I have few friends here

MOST of the STUdents /ˈməʊst əv ðə ˈstjuːdnts/، SOME of them /ˈsʌm əv ðəm/. وall of us تندمج في كلمة واحدة: /ˈɔːl əv əs/.

لا تبتلع a في a few. وكذلك a little /ə ˈlɪtl/.

وeither وneither تُنطقان بطريقتين (B1 #6): /ˈaɪðə/ أو /ˈiːðə/، /ˈnaɪðə/ أو /ˈniːðə/.

There are twelve of us in our Tuesday evening Spanish class, and last week our teacher gave us a short survey about our lives. Here are the results.

Most of us work full-time, and a few work part-time. None of us are students any more — the youngest person in the group is twenty-nine. Half of the class have been to Spain at least once, but only two people have lived there: Paul and Ruth. Both of them spent a year in Madrid, and neither of them wants to go back to an office job.

All of us have busy evenings, so homework is a problem. Some people do it on the train in the morning, and some hardly do it at all. Few of us practise speaking outside the class, and that's the biggest weakness of the group. We have a little time before the exam in June, so our teacher has a plan: every week, two of us are going to meet for a coffee and speak only Spanish. We'll meet on Mondays or Wednesdays — either day is fine for most people.

I asked my partner, Jenny, if she was nervous about the exam. "Not really," she said. "Most exams are easier than people think. And all of my friends who took it last year passed."
