Gramatika
15 minA2 #13 pamokoje kalbėjote, kiek ko yra: a lot of work, a few days, not much time.
|---|---|---|
| all | visi, viskas | All of my friends came to the party. |
| most | dauguma | Most of the guests left before midnight. |
| half | pusė | Half of the tickets have already gone. |
| many | daugelis | Many of my colleagues live outside London. |
| some | kai kurie, dalis | Some of them work at weekends. |
| a few | keli | A few of us stayed to help. |
| none | nė vienas, niekas, nieko | None of the shops were open. |
|---|---|---|
| both | abu | Both of my parents are teachers. |
| either | bet kuris iš dviejų | Either of these days is fine for me. |
| neither | nė vienas iš dviejų | Neither of the answers is right. |
Kada reikia of. Dalies žodį galima dėti tiesiai prieš daiktavardį: most people, some students, all children. O jei kalbama apie konkrečią, jau žinomą grupę — the students, my friends, these books, us, them, — tarp dalies žodžio ir grupės atsiranda of:
| apskritai — be of | konkreti grupė — su of |
|---|---|
| Most people like holidays. | Most of the people in my street have a car. |
| Some students work at night. | Some of my students work at night. |
| All children need sleep. | All of us were tired. |
| No shops are open on Christmas Day. | None of the shops were open. |
Kodėl taip: of reiškia „iš“. „Dauguma iš tų studentų, apie kuriuos kalbame“ — most of the students. Jei konkrečios grupės nėra, imti „iš“ nėra ko, ir of nededamas. Iš čia ir patikrinimas: po of būtinai eina the, my, these, those arba įvardis. Be jų of nereikia.
Su įvardžiu of reikia visada: all of us, both of them, none of it, most of you.
all, both ir half turi laisvę: prieš the ir my žodį of galima praleisti. all the students = all of the students, both my parents = both of my parents, half the class. Kitiems žodžiams taip negalima: tik most of the students, some of my friends.
all ir both po veiksnio. We all agreed. — „Mes visi sutikome“. My parents are both teachers. — „Mano tėvai abu mokytojai“. The guests have all gone home.
none ir no. no stovi tiesiai prieš daiktavardį: No students came. none — prieš of arba visai vienas, atsakyme: None of the students came. — How many tickets are left? — None. Abu žodžiai jau turi neiginį, todėl veiksmažodis po jų teigiamas: None of them came.
Jei žmonių ar daiktų trys ir daugiau, reikia all, any, none: None of my three brothers lives here, o ne neither. Po either ir neither be of eina vienaskaita: either day, neither answer. Su of — daugiskaita: neither of the answers.
not … either reiškia tą patį, ką neither, ir pokalbyje skamba įprasčiau: I don't like either of them = I like neither of them — „man nepatinka nė vienas iš dviejų“.
neither jau matėte dviem kitais vaidmenimis: neither … nor (B1 #6) ir Neither do I (B1 #20). Čia trečiasis vaidmuo — „nė vienas iš dviejų“.
a few ir few, a little ir little. Artikelis apverčia vertinimą. a few (su skaičiuojamais) ir a little (su neskaičiuojamais) — „keli“, „šiek tiek“, ir to pakanka. Be a tie patys žodžiai reiškia „mažai“, „beveik nėra“, ir tai blogai.
| I've got a few friends in Leeds, so I'm never lonely. | keli — ir tai gerai |
| I've got few friends in Leeds, so I'm often lonely. | mažai — skundas |
| We've got a little time — let's have a coffee. | šiek tiek, bet yra |
| We've got little time — hurry up. | beveik nėra |
Pokalbyje few ir little be artikelio skamba knygiškai. Vietoj jų paprastai sakoma not many, not much arba only a few: I haven't got many friends here. O quite a few reiškia, priešingai, „gana daug“: Quite a few of my colleagues cycle to work.
Veiksmažodis. Po most of, some of, all of, half of veiksmažodis derinamas su daiktavardžiu po of: Most of the students are here, bet Most of the money was spent. Jei po of stovi grupės žodis — class, team, family, — britų anglų kalboje teisingi abu skaičiai: Half of the class has been to Spain (klasė kaip viena visuma) ir Half of the class have been to Spain (žmonės joje). Po none of, neither of ir either of taip pat teisingi abu: None of us is perfect ir None of us are perfect, Neither of them knows ir Neither of them know. Vienaskaita skamba griežčiau, ir oficialiame laiške renkamasi ji; daugiskaita įprasta pokalbyje. Klaidos nėra nei vienur, nei kitur.
Dar pavyzdžių:
| Most of my colleagues come to work by train. | Dauguma mano kolegų į darbą važiuoja traukiniu. |
| Some of the questions were really difficult. | Kai kurie klausimai buvo labai sunkūs. |
| Half of the class have been to Spain. | Pusė grupės yra buvę Ispanijoje. |
| None of us knew the answer. | Nė vienas iš mūsų nežinojo atsakymo. |
| Both of my sisters live abroad. | Abi mano seserys gyvena užsienyje. |
| Monday or Tuesday? Either day is fine. | Pirmadienį ar antradienį? Tinka bet kuri diena. |
Taip nesakoma. ✗ all us, ✗ both they → ✓ all of us, both of them. ✗ most the students → ✓ most of the students.
Pasitikrinkite. Kaip pasakyti „Dauguma mano draugų gyvena Londone“? Kuo skiriasi I have a few friends here nuo I have few friends here? Kaip pasakyti „nė vienas iš dviejų atsakymų nėra teisingas“?

Lietuvių kalbos gimtakalbių klaidos
parašyta jūsų kalbaiof ten, kur jo nereikia
✗ Most of students work
✓ Most students work
(studentai apskritai) arba Most of the students in my group work (konkretūs). Lietuviškas „dauguma studentų“ abiem prasmėmis skamba vienodai, o kilmininkas pasufleruoja „iš“ — of. Bet angliškas of reikalauja po savęs the, my arba įvardžio.
the most reikšme „dauguma“
✗ The most of people prefer tea
✓ Most people prefer tea
the most — aukščiausiasis laipsnis (A2 #8): the most expensive — „brangiausias“. „Dauguma“ ir „daugiausia“ lietuviškai giminingi žodžiai, todėl ranka deda the, kaip prieš aukščiausiąjį laipsnį.
Dvigubas neiginys
✗ None of them didn't come → ✓ None of them came. ✗ Neither of us didn't know → ✓ Neither of us knew.
✗ Neither of my three brothers drives
✓ None of my three brothers drives
few vietoj a few
I have few friends here reikšme „turiu čia kelis draugus“ — sakinys teisingas, bet reiškia kita: „draugų mažai“, skundą dėl vienatvės. Lietuviškai „keli“ ir „mažai“ — skirtingi žodžiai, o angliškai skirtumą laiko vienas trumpas artikelis, kurio lietuvių kalboje nėra ir kurį lengva pamesti.
Tarimas
4 minof šiuose junginiuose nekirčiuotas — /əv/, o prieš priebalsį dažnai tiesiog /ə/. Kirtis tenka dalies žodžiui ir daiktavardžiui: MOST of the STUdents /ˈməʊst əv ðə ˈstjuːdnts/, SOME of them /ˈsʌm əv ðəm/. all of us susilieja į vieną žodį: /ˈɔːl əv əs/.
a junginyje a few nepraryskite. /ə ˈfjuː/ prieš /fjuː/: vienas silpnas garsas skiria „keli“ nuo „mažai“. Tas pats su a little /ə ˈlɪtl/.
Tekstas
5 minThere are twelve of us in our Tuesday evening Spanish class, and last week our teacher gave us a short survey about our lives. Here are the results.
Most of us work full-time, and a few work part-time. None of us are students any more — the youngest person in the group is twenty-nine. Half of the class have been to Spain at least once, but only two people have lived there: Paul and Ruth. Both of them spent a year in Madrid, and neither of them wants to go back to an office job.
All of us have busy evenings, so homework is a problem. Some people do it on the train in the morning, and some hardly do it at all. Few of us practise speaking outside the class, and that's the biggest weakness of the group. We have a little time before the exam in June, so our teacher has a plan: every week, two of us are going to meet for a coffee and speak only Spanish. We'll meet on Mondays or Wednesdays — either day is fine for most people.
I asked my partner, Jenny, if she was nervous about the exam. "Not really," she said. "Most exams are easier than people think. And all of my friends who took it last year passed."

There are fifteen people in my team at work. Most of us live in the city, but a few of my colleagues come in from the countryside. Half of the team have children. None of us are older than fifty. Both of our managers speak French, and neither of them drives to work. Few of us take a proper lunch break — we're always too busy.
