Vysvetlenie meškania sú zvyčajne dva minulé časy spolu (lekcia 2): pozadie a udalosť.

I was walking to the station when I saw the accident.

Príčina a následok — štyri slová a každé má iné poradie:

because stojí pred celou vetou, because of pred podstatným menom. Sú to rôzne konštrukcie a zamieňať ich nemožno.

Po slovensky stačí „čakal som“ a jeden minulý čas; po anglicky pozadie, do ktorého vstúpila udalosť, potrebuje was + -ing (lekcia 2).

traffic je nepočítateľné ako money (lekcia 13): bez a, s a lot of.

Výslovnosť

Na hranici slov sa spoluhlásky spájajú a veta znie ako jedno dlhé slovo:

got up „gotap“

Koncová spoluhláska prejde k ďalšiemu slovu, ak sa začína samohláskou. To nie je nedbalosť, ale základ anglického rytmu.
