解释迟到的原因

解释迟到，通常要把两种过去时态放在一起用（第2课）：背景和事件。

I was waiting for the bus when it started to rain.
While I was driving, the car broke down.
I was walking to the station when I saw the accident.

原因和结果——四个词，后面接的东西和顺序都不一样：

后面接什么 例句
because 原因 I was late because the bus didn't come.
so 结果 The bus didn't come, so I was late.
because of 原因（用名词表示） I was late because of the traffic.
that's why 结果 The bus didn't come. That's why I was late.

because 放在完整的句子前面，because of 放在名词前面。这是两种不同的结构，不能混用。

讲路上的经过时用的方向介词（再练 A1 第22课）：get to work、 walk across the park、drive past the station、go along the street。

或 The bus didn't come, so I was late. 汉语里“因为”和“所以”常常成对出现，英语里 because 和 so 只能用一个。

because of 后面接句子。

✗ because of the bus didn't come

✓ because the bus didn't come

或 because of the bus。汉语的“因为”后面既可以是名词（“因为堵车”），也可以是句子（“因为车没来”）；英语要分开：句子前用 because，名词前用 because of。

背景也用一般过去时。

✗ I waited for the bus when it started to rain

✓ I was waiting

。和第2课一样：汉语动词不变，“在”也常常省掉；英语里正在进行的背景必须用 was/were + -ing。

丢掉 am。

✗ Sorry, I late.

✓ I'm sorry I'm late.

“我迟到了”里没有“是”，可是 late 是形容词，前面一定要有 am、is、are。

在词与词的交界处，辅音和后面的元音连在一起，整个短语听起来像一个长单词：

got up /ɡɒˈtʌp/

后一个词以元音开头时，前一个词末尾的辅音就移到这个元音上。普通话的音节很少以辅音结尾，所以容易把末尾的辅音吞掉，或者在后面加一个元音（读成 got-e up）。连读不是随便，而是英语节奏的基础。
