আমি সময়ের অধীন অংশসহ ভবিষ্যতের বাক্য গড়তে পারি আর ঠিকঠাক বলতে পারি, কোনো কিছু কতবার ঘটে।
ঘোষিত মূল সময়। মূল ব্লকের দুটিতে কোনো সময় উল্লেখ নেই, তাই আসল পাঠ এই যোগফলের চেয়ে বেশি লম্বা।
ব্যাকরণ
18 মিনিটA2-এর পাঠ 27-এ আপনি শর্তবাক্যের নিয়ম শিখেছেন: ভবিষ্যতের কথায় if-এর পরে বসে বর্তমান কাল — If it rains, I'll stay at home, ✗ If it will rain নয়। ভবিষ্যৎ আগেই বলা হয়েছে প্রধান অংশে (I'll stay), আর if-যুক্ত অংশ শুধু জানায়, কোন শর্তে তা ঘটবে।
ঠিক একইভাবে কাজ করে সময়ের সংযোজকগুলো। when, as soon as, until, before, after, by the time-যুক্ত অংশ বলে, কোন মুহূর্তে কিছু ঘটবে, আর তাতে ভবিষ্যৎ কাল নেই, যদিও বাংলায় সেখানে ভবিষ্যৎ থাকে: “যখন পৌঁছাব, ফোন করব” — I'll call you when I get there। পুরো বাক্যে ইংরেজির একটা will-ই যথেষ্ট: প্রধান অংশ আগেই জানিয়ে দিয়েছে, কথা ভবিষ্যতের।
রূপ। প্রধান অংশে — will, going to, অনুজ্ঞা বা মোডাল ক্রিয়া। সংযোজকযুক্ত অংশে — Present Simple।

till — until-এর কথ্য রূপ, অর্থ একই। while-এর পরে সাধারণত বসে Present Continuous: while বলে চলমান প্রক্রিয়ার কথা — আর এটাও বর্তমান কাল।
না-বাচক আর প্রশ্ন গড়া হয় সাধারণ নিয়মে, আর কাল একই থাকে: প্রধান অংশে ভবিষ্যৎ, সংযোজকের পরে বর্তমান। I won't leave until you get back. What will you do when you finish university? Will you call me as soon as you hear something?
অংশগুলোর ক্রম স্বাধীন। সংযোজকযুক্ত অংশ আগে এলে তার পরে কমা বসে: When I get home, I'll call you. পরে এলে কমা নেই: I'll call you when I get home. অতীতের গল্পেও নিয়ম একই ছিল (পাঠ 2)।
“শেষ করে” — Present Perfect। যদি জরুরি হয় যে একটা কাজ পুরোপুরি শেষ হবে অন্যটা শুরুর আগেই, সংযোজকের পরে বসে Present Perfect: I'll send you the report when I've finished it. — “পুরোটা শেষ করে তবে পাঠাব”। As soon as I've read the book, I'll give it back. when, after, as soon as, once, until-এর পরে এভাবেই সবচেয়ে বেশি বলা হয়। Present Simple-ও এখানে ঠিক; Present Perfect জোর দেয় যে কাজটা সম্পন্ন হবে। ভবিষ্যৎ কাল এখানেও নেই।
কখন ব্যবহার হয়। তিনটি সাধারণ পরিস্থিতি:
- কথা পাকা করা আর প্রতিশ্রুতি দেওয়া: I'll text you as soon as I land. — “নামামাত্রই মেসেজ করব”;
- নির্দেশ দেওয়া: Don't open the door until the light goes green. — “সবুজ আলো না জ্বলা পর্যন্ত দরজা খুলবেন না”;
- ধাপে ধাপে পরিকল্পনা সাজানো: After we've had lunch, we'll go to the museum.
until — “না” ছাড়া। বাংলায় “আমি না ফেরা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করো” বা “যতক্ষণ না আমি ফিরি” — “না” আছে, যদিও অর্থ হ্যাঁ-বাচক: তুমি অপেক্ষা করবে, তারপর আমি ফিরব। ইংরেজিতে until নিজেই মানে “যতক্ষণ না”, তাই তার পরে দ্বিতীয় না-বাচক নেই: Wait until I come back. আর না-বাচক যদি প্রধান অংশে থাকে, অর্থ দাঁড়ায় “…-র আগে নয়”: I won't pay until I see the car. — “গাড়িটা না দেখা পর্যন্ত টাকা দেব না”।
if আর প্রশ্নের সঙ্গে তুলনা করুন। when-এর দুই প্রতিবেশী আছে, আর দুটোর সঙ্গেই একে গুলিয়ে ফেলা হয়:

যাচাই সহজ। আপনি যদি জিজ্ঞেস করেন “কখন?” বা বলেন যে জানেন না কখন, — এটা প্রশ্ন, আর ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে যেকোনো প্রশ্নের মতো এতেও will থাকে। আর যদি when সেই মুহূর্তটি বলে, যখন প্রধান কাজটি ঘটবে, — এটা সংযোজক, আর তার পরে বর্তমান।
কতবার: every। every + একবচন বিশেষ্য বোঝায় নিয়মিততা: every day, every Monday, every summer। সংখ্যার সঙ্গে বোঝায় ব্যবধান: every two weeks — “দুই সপ্তাহে একবার”, every three hours — “প্রতি তিন ঘণ্টায়”। বিশেষ্য এখানে বহুবচনে, কারণ every গোটা দলটাকে ধরে — “দুই সপ্তাহ”। every other day — “একদিন পরপর”: প্রতি দ্বিতীয় দিন। A1-এর once a week, twice a month-এর সঙ্গে মিলিয়ে কতবার ঘটে, তা বলার দুটি উপায়: once a week — নির্দিষ্ট সময়ে কতবার, every two weeks — দুবারের মাঝে কতটা ব্যবধান।
every time আর whenever — “প্রতিবার যখন”। এরাও সময়ের সংযোজক, আর নিয়মও একই: ভবিষ্যতের কথায় এদের পরে বর্তমান। Every time I see him, he's on the phone. — যা সবসময় ঘটে, তা নিয়ে। Whenever you're in Leeds, come and see us. — ভবিষ্যতের কথা, কিন্তু you're, ✗ you'll be নয়।
every আর each। দুটোরই অর্থ “প্রত্যেক”, দুটোই বসে একবচন বিশেষ্যের আগে, আর তাদের পরে ক্রিয়াও একবচনে: Every room has a TV. Each room has a TV. পার্থক্য — বক্তা দলটাকে কীভাবে দেখছেন:

- each একা বসে আর of-এর সঙ্গেও: each of us, each of the rooms, We each got a copy. every তা পারে না: ✗ every of us → ✓ each of us বা every one of us।
- almost, nearly, not-এর সঙ্গে চলে শুধু every: almost every day, Not every hotel has a lift.
যেখানে দুটোই সম্ভব, পার্থক্য প্রায় শোনা যায় না: every time আর each time-এর অর্থ এক।

। বাংলার “না ফেরা পর্যন্ত”, “যতক্ষণ না” আসে “না” নিয়েই, আর তা ইংরেজিতে হয়ে যায় don't। কিন্তু until-এর মধ্যেই “না” আছে, আর দ্বিতীয় না-বাচক বাক্যটাকে অর্থহীন করে দেয়।
every + সংখ্যা: হারানো -s।

every three hours। বাংলায় সংখ্যার পরে বিশেষ্য বহুবচন হয় না — “দুই সপ্তাহ পরপর”, — তাই -s হারিয়ে যায়। every একা এলে একবচন (every week), সংখ্যার সঙ্গে — বহুবচন।
