If it rains, I'll stay at home, i no ✗ If it will rain.
La part amb when, as soon as, until, before, after, by the time diu en quin moment passarà una cosa, i no hi va el futur. En català tampoc: no diem «et trucaré quan arribaré», sinó «quan arribi», amb subjuntiu. L'anglès no té aquest subjuntiu i hi posa el present: I'll call you when I get there.
A la part principal, will, going to, l'imperatiu o un verb modal.
|---|---|---|
| when | quan | I'll call you when I get home. |
| as soon as | tan bon punt, així que | We'll start as soon as everyone arrives. |
| once | tan bon punt, un cop | Once you pay, you'll get an email with the tickets. |
| until / till | fins que | Wait here until I come back. |
| before | abans que, abans de | Switch off the lights before you leave. |
| after | després que, després de | I'll ring you after the meeting finishes. |
| while | mentre | I'll make dinner while you're having a shower. |
| by the time | per quan, quan ja | By the time you arrive, the food will be ready. |
I won't leave until you get back. What will you do when you finish university? Will you call me as soon as you hear something?
When I get home, I'll call you. Si va segona, no hi ha coma: I'll call you when I get home.
«Quan l'hagi acabat»: Present Perfect. I'll send you the report when I've finished it. — «t'enviaré l'informe quan l'hagi acabat (sencer, del tot)». As soon as I've read the book, I'll give it back. Així es diu sobretot després de when, after, as soon as, once, until.
- quedar i prometre: I'll text you as soon as I land. — «T'escric tan bon punt aterri»;
- donar una instrucció: Don't open the door until the light goes green. — «No obris la porta fins que el llum no es posi verd»;
- organitzar un pla pas a pas: After we've had lunch, we'll go to the museum.
until, sense «no».
| I'll call you when I see her. |
| I'll call you if I see her. | Potser la veuré, potser no. |
| When will you be back? | La pregunta «quan?»: cal el futur. |
| I don't know when he'll be back. | Pregunta indirecta (B1 #19): cal el futur. |
| I'll call you when he gets back. | Conjunció de temps: present. |
every time i whenever: «cada vegada que». Every time I see him, he's on the phone. — del que passa sempre. Whenever you're in Leeds, come and see us. — del futur, però you're, i no ✗ you'll be.
every i each. Each room has a TV.
| each: cadascun per separat, un darrere l'altre | The teacher spoke to each student. |
També es diferencien per la forma:
- each serveix també per a dos: She had a bag in each hand. every, només per a tres o més.
- each va sol i amb of: each of us, each of the rooms, We each got a copy. every no pot: ✗ every of us → ✓ each of us o every one of us.
- Amb almost, nearly, not només serveix every: almost every day, Not every hotel has a lift.
On valen totes dues, la diferència gairebé no es nota: every time i each time volen dir el mateix.
Més exemples:
| I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything. | T'avisaré tan bon punt sàpiga alguna cosa. |
| We won't start until everyone is here. |
| Before you go, could you close the window? | Abans de marxar, pots tancar la finestra, si us plau? |
| By the time you get there, the shop will be closed. | Quan hi arribis, la botiga ja serà tancada. |
| I'll read the news while you're driving. | Jo llegiré les notícies mentre tu condueixes. |
| The bus comes every twenty minutes. | L'autobús passa cada vint minuts. |
| Each of the rooms has its own bathroom. | Cada habitació té el seu propi bany. |
| Each of you will get a copy when the meeting starts. |
Així no es diu. ✗ every days → ✓ every day.
Posa't a prova. Per què a I don't know when she'll arrive hi ha will? each o every: She wore a ring on ___ hand?

Errors dels parlants de català
adaptada al teu idiomawill després de when
✗ I'll call you when I will get home → ✓ I'll call you when I get home. És l'error més freqüent de la lliçó, i amb as soon as, until, before, after és el mateix: ✗ as soon as I will know → ✓ as soon as I know.
We won't leave until the rain doesn't stop → ✓ We won't leave until the rain stops. Darrere d'until no hi va mai not.
«Cada» i «tots els dies»
✗ I go swimming all the days → ✓ I go swimming every day; ✗ every weeks → ✓ every week. I com que «cada» serveix per a tot, sovint surt every on cal each: ✗ a bag in every hand → ✓ in each hand.
| I'll call you when I get home. | /aɪl ˈkɔːl jə wen aɪ ɡet ˈhəʊm/ — when, feble |
| as soon as I know | /əz ˈsuːn əz aɪ ˈnəʊ/ — totes dues as sonen /əz/ |
| until I come back | /ənˈtɪl aɪ kʌm ˈbæk/ — /ənˈtɪlaɪ/, d'una tirada |
When I get home ↗, I'll call you ↘.
each i every: each /iːtʃ/, amb /iː/ llarga; no la confonguis amb itch /ɪtʃ/, «picar». every /ˈevri/, dues síl·labes: la e del mig no es pronuncia.
Text
5 minHi Sam,
Here's the plan for Friday. I'll get to the venue at eight, and I'll text you as soon as I arrive. Please don't let anyone in until I've checked the room — the projector didn't work last time.
When the participants arrive, each of them will get a badge and a printed programme. Every badge has a name and a group number on it. There are forty people, so we'll need two tables: one for groups one to three and the other for groups four and five.
The first session starts at half past nine. Before it begins, could you check that every chair has a pen and a feedback form? While I'm giving the introduction, you can look after the late arrivals.
We'll have a short break every hour and a half. After lunch, the groups will swap rooms, so some people will stay where they are and others will move upstairs.
By the time we finish, everyone will be tired, so let's keep the closing short. I'll send you the photos once I get home.
One other thing: could you bring another extension lead? We never have enough. If you have any questions, call me — I'll be in the office until six on Thursday.
Thanks! Jo
