Na A2 #27 si sa naučil pravidlo podmienkových viet: po if sa o budúcnosti dáva prítomný čas — If it rains, I'll stay at home, nie ✗ If it will rain.

Časť s when, as soon as, until, before, after, by the time hovorí, v ktorej chvíli sa niečo stane, a budúci čas v nej nie je, hoci po slovensky ho tam často dávame: „zavolám, keď budem doma“ — I'll call you when I get home.

Tvar. V hlavnej časti — will, going to, rozkazovací spôsob alebo modálne sloveso. V časti so spojkou — Present Simple.

spojka význam príklad
when keď I'll call you when I get home.
as soon as hneď ako, len čo We'll start as soon as everyone arrives.
once len čo, keď už Once you pay, you'll get an email with the tickets.
until / till kým (ne-), až kým Wait here until I come back.
before skôr ako, predtým ako Switch off the lights before you leave.
after potom ako, keď I'll ring you after the meeting finishes.
while kým, zatiaľ čo I'll make dinner while you're having a shower.
by the time dovtedy, kým; než By the time you arrive, the food will be ready.

I won't leave until you get back. What will you do when you finish university? Will you call me as soon as you hear something?

Poradie častí je voľné. Ak ide časť so spojkou prvá, píše sa za ňou čiarka: When I get home, I'll call you. Ak ide druhá, čiarka nie je: I'll call you when I get home.

„Keď to dokončím“ — Present Perfect. Ak je dôležité, že jedna vec bude celkom hotová skôr, než sa začne druhá, dáva sa po spojke Present Perfect: I'll send you the report when I've finished it. — „pošlem, keď to dokončím (celé, úplne)“. As soon as I've read the book, I'll give it back. Najčastejšie sa tak hovorí po when, after, as soon as, once, until.

  • dohodnúť sa a sľúbiť: I'll text you as soon as I land. — „Napíšem, hneď ako pristanem“;
  • dať pokyn: Don't open the door until the light goes green. — „Neotvárajte, kým sa nerozsvieti zelená“;
  • rozpísať plán po krokoch: After we've had lunch, we'll go to the museum.

V angličtine until samo znamená „kým ne-“ a druhý zápor za ním nie je: Wait until I come back. I won't pay until I see the car. — „Nezaplatím, kým neuvidím auto.“

Porovnaj s if a s otázkou. when má dvoch susedov a s oboma sa zamieňa:

I'll call you when I see her. Uvidím ju určite, otázka je len kedy.
I'll call you if I see her. Možno ju uvidím, možno nie.
When will you be back? Otázka „kedy?“ — budúci čas treba.
I don't know when he'll be back. Nepriama otázka (B1 #19) — budúci čas treba.
I'll call you when he gets back.

Ako často: every. every + podstatné meno v jednotnom čísle pomenúva pravidelnosť: every day, every Monday, every summer. S číslom vznikne interval: every two weeks — „raz za dva týždne“, every three hours — „každé tri hodiny“.

every time a whenever — „vždy, keď“. Every time I see him, he's on the phone. — o tom, čo býva vždy. Whenever you're in Leeds, come and see us. — o budúcnosti, ale you're, nie ✗ you'll be.

every a each. Each room has a TV.

every — na celú skupinu naraz, „všetci bez výnimky“ Every student passed the exam.
each — na každého zvlášť, jedného po druhom The teacher spoke to each student.

Líšia sa aj tvarom:

  • each býva aj o dvoch: She had a bag in each hand. every — len o troch a viacerých.
  • each stojí samostatne a s of: each of us, each of the rooms, We each got a copy. every to nevie: ✗ every of us → ✓ each of us alebo every one of us.
  • S almost, nearly, not sa hodí len every: almost every day, Not every hotel has a lift.

Tam, kde sú možné obe, je rozdiel takmer nepočuteľný: every time a each time znamenajú to isté.

Ďalšie príklady:

I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.
We won't start until everyone is here. Nezačneme, kým sa všetci nezídu.
Before you go, could you close the window? Pred odchodom zavri, prosím, okno.
By the time you get there, the shop will be closed. Kým sa tam dostaneš, obchod už bude zatvorený.
I'll read the news while you're driving. Prečítam si správy, kým šoféruješ.
The bus comes every twenty minutes. Autobus chodí raz za dvadsať minút.
Each of the rooms has its own bathroom. Každá izba má vlastnú kúpeľňu.
Each of you will get a copy when the meeting starts. Každý z vás dostane kópiu, keď sa stretnutie začne.

Takto sa nehovorí. ✗ every days → ✓ every day.

Prečo je v I don't know when she'll arrive will? each alebo every: She wore a ring on ___ hand?

zobraziť odpovede
Call me as soon as you arrive alebo Call me as soon as you get there; when je tu opytovacie slovo v nepriamej otázke, nie časová spojka; each — ruky sú len dve.

Chyby slovensky hovoriacich

napísané pre váš jazyk
1

will po when

✗ I'll call you when I will get home → ✓ I'll call you when I get home. Je to najčastejšia chyba lekcie a s as soon as, until, before, after je rovnaká: ✗ as soon as I will know → ✓ as soon as I know.

2

„Kým sa nevrátim“ doslova

✗ Wait until I don't come back

✓ Wait until I come back

3

Jedno slovenské „každý“

✗ every of us → ✓ each of us; ✗ a bag in every hand → ✓ a bag in each hand. Po anglicky s of a o dvoch veciach len each.

4

Čiarka pred when

✗ I'll call you, when I get home

✓ I'll call you when I get home

I'll call you when I get home. /aɪl ˈkɔːl jə wen aɪ ɡet ˈhəʊm/ — when slabé
as soon as I know /əz ˈsuːn əz aɪ ˈnəʊ/ — obe as znejú /əz/
until I come back /ənˈtɪl aɪ kʌm ˈbæk/ — „əntilaj“

Koncové /l/ sa spája so samohláskou nasledujúceho slova: until I znie ako jeden celok.

Melódia dvojčlennej vety. Ak ide časť so spojkou prvá, hlas na jej konci stúpa — „pokračovanie nasleduje“ —, a na konci hlavnej časti klesá: When I get home ↗, I'll call you ↘.

each a every: each /iːtʃ/ — dlhé /iː/, nezamieňaj s itch /ɪtʃ/ — „svrbieť“. every /ˈevri/ — dve slabiky: stredné e sa nečíta.

Text

Hi Sam,

Here's the plan for Friday. I'll get to the venue at eight, and I'll text you as soon as I arrive. Please don't let anyone in until I've checked the room — the projector didn't work last time.

When the participants arrive, each of them will get a badge and a printed programme. Every badge has a name and a group number on it. There are forty people, so we'll need two tables: one for groups one to three and the other for groups four and five.

The first session starts at half past nine. Before it begins, could you check that every chair has a pen and a feedback form? While I'm giving the introduction, you can look after the late arrivals.

We'll have a short break every hour and a half. After lunch, the groups will swap rooms, so some people will stay where they are and others will move upstairs.

By the time we finish, everyone will be tired, so let's keep the closing short. I'll send you the photos once I get home.

One other thing: could you bring another extension lead? We never have enough. If you have any questions, call me — I'll be in the office until six on Thursday.

Thanks! Jo
