Present Perfect Past Simple
afirmació I've lost my keys. I lost my keys.
negació She hasn't called. She didn't call.
pregunta Have you seen it? Did you see it?

Compara: I lost my keys last week, but I found them — l'episodi és tancat, i no en queda cap resultat.

Have you heard? They've closed the bridge. ← notícia

Really? When did they close it? ← detalls

On Monday. They found a crack in it.

El període encara no s'ha acabat: I've had three coffees today. Si el període s'ha acabat, cal el Past Simple: I had three coffees yesterday. Igual es reparteix this morning: a les deu del matí, I've drunk two coffees this morning; al vespre, I drank two coffees this morning.

She has written four novels.

just, already, yet, ever, so far, lately, since Monday yesterday, ago, last week, in May, when I was a child, the other day

never, recently, today, this week van amb tots dos temps, i decideix el mateix: si el període s'ha acabat. I've never been to Wales — la vida continua; I never saw him again — la història s'ha explicat fins al final.

Britànic i americà. En l'anglès americà, amb just, already, yet sovint es fa servir el Past Simple: Did you eat yet?, I just saw him. Have you eaten yet? i I've just seen him.

Compara:

I've lost my keys.
I lost my keys.

La pregunta Have you seen Tom? vol dir «el necessito ara», i Did you see Tom? parla d'una ocasió concreta, per exemple de la festa d'ahir.

Així no es diu. ✗ I've been in London last year → ✓ I was in London last year. last year tanca el període, i el perfet hi és impossible, encara que el viatge sigui part de la teva experiència. Per a l'experiència sense moment: I've been to London (A2 #4).

Posa't a prova. Busques les ulleres i ho dius a un amic: I lost my glasses o I've lost my glasses? Per què a la pregunta When did you buy it? no hi pot anar el perfet?

1

El perfet amb un moment d'avui

«He mirat l'aplicació fa deu minuts» → ✗ I've checked the app ten minutes ago → ✓ I checked the app ten minutes ago. I had two coffees this morning.

2

When amb el perfet

«Quan han tancat el pont?» → ✗ When have they closed the bridge? → ✓ When did they close the bridge?

3

«Des de» amb el present

«No el veig des de dilluns» → ✗ I don't see him since Monday → ✓ I haven't seen him since Monday.

3 min

Tota la diferència, a la parla, és un so curt i àton: /v/ a I've, /z/ o /s/ a she's, it's.

I've lost it. /aɪv ˈlɒst ɪt/
I lost it. /aɪ ˈlɒst ɪt/

No ho traslladis a l'anglès.

's: és has o is? Mira la paraula següent. She's broken her arm — darrere de 's hi ha una tercera forma, per tant és has. She's tired — un adjectiu, per tant és is. What's happened? /wɒts ˈhæpənd/ — has.

Text

You look worried. What's happened?

I've lost my wallet. I've looked everywhere — in my bag, in my coat, in the car — and I can't find it.

Oh no. When did you last have it?

This morning. I paid for a coffee at the station at about half past eight. Then I went to the library and spent two hours there.

Did you take it out in the library?

I don't think so. I bought a sandwich on the way back, but I paid with my phone.

Have you called the library?

Not yet. I've only just got back.

Well, call them now. And have you cancelled your bank card?

Yes, I've already done that. I did it on the bus.

Good. Has anyone tried to use it?

No, nothing has happened so far. I checked the app ten minutes ago.

Then don't panic. Someone has probably found it already.
