Keblioji tema

A2 #18 pamokoje išmokote kalbėti apie tai, kas nutrūko: I don't work there any more — „Aš ten nebedirbu“. Šis not … any more turi knyginį variantą, kuriame neiginys jau viduje: no longer. Jis sudarytas taip pat kaip hardly (B1 #12): žodis pats neigiamas, ir antro not šalia jo nededama.

I no longer work there. Aš ten nebedirbu.
= I don't work there any more. tas pats, šnekamiau
She's no longer a child. Ji jau nebe vaikas.
The shop is no longer open on Sundays. Parduotuvė sekmadieniais nebedirba.
You can no longer pay by cheque. Čekiu atsiskaityti nebegalima.
We no longer have a car. Mes nebeturime automobilio.

Vieta. no longer stovi ten pat, kur dažnumo prieveiksmiai (A1 #11) ir hardly: prieš pagrindinį veiksmažodį (I no longer work), bet po be (She's no longer) ir po pagalbinio arba modalinio veiksmažodžio (You can no longer pay). any more stovi pačiame frazės gale.

not … any longer reiškia tą patį kaip not … any more ir taip pat stovi gale: I can't wait any longer. — „Nebegaliu laukti“. Su wait ir stay ši forma ypač dažna: We couldn't stay any longer.

Kur kas skamba. Pokalbyje beveik visada not … any more. no longer — rašte, skelbimuose, žiniose ir oficialiuose laiškuose: This service is no longer available. — „Ši paslauga nebeteikiama“. Šnekamojoje kalboje no longer skamba griežčiau ir pabrėžia pokytį.

Klausime ir trumpajame atsakyme — still ir any more: — Do you still live in Bath? — No, not any more. Atsakymas No longer vienu žodžiu skamba knygiškai.

Nepainiokite no longer ir no more. no longer — apie laiką: anksčiau buvo, dabar nebėra. no more + daiktavardis — apie kiekį: There's no more coffee. — „Kavos nebėra, ji baigėsi“. Lietuviškas „nebėra“ tinka abiem atvejams, angliškai jie skiriasi. ✗ I no more work there → ✓ I no longer work there.

Palyginkite su still:

He still lives with his parents. vis dar gyvena
He no longer lives with his parents. nebegyvena

Kaip versti. Lietuviškas priešdėlis „nebe-“ („nebedirbu“, „nebegyvena“), taip pat „jau ne“, „liovėsi“ pasakojime apie pokytį — tai no longer arba not … any more. „Jis jau nebe tas“ — He's no longer the same. „Tai jau nebe paslaptis“ — It's no longer a secret. „Man to nebereikia“ — I no longer need it arba I don't need it any more. Neiginio „ne“ iš „nebe-“ atskirai į anglišką frazę nekelkite: no longer jį jau turi, kaip ir hardly. O jei „nebe-“ reiškia „nė minutės ilgiau“, „gana“, rinkitės not … any longer: „Nebegaliu to pakęsti“ — I can't stand it any longer.

Rašyba. Britų anglų kalboje paprastai rašoma atskirai — any more; sujungtas anymore atėjo iš amerikiečių anglų kalbos ir Britanijoje taip pat pasitaiko vis dažniau. Klaida nelaikoma nė viena forma; šiame kurse — atskirai, kaip A2 #18 pamokoje. no longer rašomas tik atskirai.

Taip nesakoma. ✗ I don't no longer work there → ✓ I no longer work there. Neiginys no longer viduje jau yra; antrasis paverčia frazę dvigubu neiginiu, kurio bendrinėje anglų kalboje nėra. Lietuviškai du neiginiai įprasti („niekas nebeateina“), todėl čia ypač lengva suklysti.

Pasitikrinkite. Kaip knygiškai pasakyti She doesn't live here any more? Kas negerai sakinyje I can't wait no longer? Kuo There's no more milk skiriasi nuo We no longer buy milk?

Mini pasakojimas

Papasakokite balsu ir užrašykite dešimt sakinių: du mandagūs klausimai nepažįstamajam ir vienas „nežinau“; trumpas pokalbis su uodegėle ir So … I arba Neither … I; įprotis, kurį metėte, ir tai, ką prisimenate iš vaikystės; ko iš jūsų nori darbe ar namie ir ką darote patys; vieta, kur dažnai lankotės, — su visų trijų rūšių artikeliais. Bent vienas sakinys — su no longer.

Kontrolinis sąrašas prieš 25 pamoką:

  • ar netiesioginio klausimo viduje tvarka tiesioginė, nėra do, bendrasis klausimas — su if?
  • ar uodegėlė priešinga pagal ženklą, o So … I — su pašnekovo veiksmažodžiu ir atvirkštine tvarka?
  • ar „metė“ — stopped + -ing, prisiminimas — remember + -ing, užduotis — remember to?
  • ar po want — ką + to, po make ir let — be to?
  • ar bendra sąvoka be artikelio, konkreti — su the?
  • ar šalia no longer nėra antro not?
