Artikeliai jums pasitaikė nuo pirmųjų pamokų: a ir an (A1 #2), a ir the (A1 #14), artikelis su pavadinimais ir go to school (A2 #16).

Taip nėra: a car ir the car — dvi skirtingos žinios. Pirmoji — „kažkoks automobilis, apie jį dar negirdėjote“, antroji — „būtent tas, jūs žinote, kuris“.

Trys klausimai — iš eilės.

klausimas jei „taip“
Klausytojas supranta, kuris būtent daiktas? the
Ne. Tai vienas skaičiuojamas daiktas — „kažkoks“, „vienas iš“? a / an
Ne. Tai daugiskaita arba neskaičiuojamas daiktavardis, bendra prasme? be artikelio

Kai klausytojas supranta, kuris būtent. Daiktas jau minėtas: I bought a jacket and a scarf. The jacket is blue. Jis vienas šioje situacijoje: Could you close the door?, the kitchen (šiame bute), the station (šiame mieste). Jis vienas visiems: the sun, the sea, the government. Jį patikslina žodžiai po jo: the man in the grey coat, the book I'm reading, the history of Wales.

Kai a arba an. Daiktas minimas pirmą kartą: There's a new café in our street. Tai vienas iš daugelio: She works in a bank. Tai profesija arba apibūdinimas: She's a nurse. It's a lovely day. What a surprise! Ir reikšme „per“: twice a week, £12 an hour.

bendra — be artikelio konkretu — su the
Books are expensive. The books on my desk are from the library.
I like coffee. The coffee in this café is terrible.
Children learn languages fast. The children next door are very loud.
Life is short. The life of a nurse is hard.
Music helps me relax. The music at the wedding was great.

Būdvardis daikto konkrečiu nepadaro: modern art, British history, fresh bread — vis tiek bendra, be artikelio. O patikslinimas po žodžio — su of, su in, šalutinis sakinys — beveik visada padaro: the art of the Renaissance, the bread you bought. Bet life in London, life in a big city reiškia gyvenimą ten apskritai, todėl artikelio vis tiek nėra.

Be artikelio iš įpročio.

maistas, gėrimai, medžiagos apskritai I don't eat meat.
kalbos, mokomieji dalykai, sporto šakos She speaks German. I play tennis.
valgymai We had lunch at one.
transportas po by We went by train.
vietos pagal paskirtį (A2 #16) go to work, school, bed; be in hospital
šalys, miestai, gatvės Spain, Edinburgh, Oxford Street
next, last — skaičiuojant nuo šiandien next week, last year

Visada su the. Aukščiausiasis laipsnis ir kelintiniai skaitvardžiai: the best film, the first time. Žodžiai the same, the only. Muzikos instrumentai: play the piano — bet sporto šakos be artikelio: play football. Įprastos pramogų vietos: go to the cinema, go to the theatre, listen to the radio — bet watch TV. Paros dalys: in the morning, in the evening — bet at night. Tauta kaip visuma: the British, the Romans.

another, the other, others — ta pati sistema.

another + vns. an + other dar vienas; koks nors kitas Can I have another coffee?
the other + vns. the + other antrasis iš dviejų, likęs One shoe is here. Where's the other one?
other + dgs. be artikelio kiti apskritai, kokie nors kiti Other people think differently.
the other + dgs. the + other likę iš žinomos grupės Tom is here. The other guests are in the garden.
others be daiktavardžio kiti apskritai Some people like it; others don't.
the others be daiktavardžio visi likę iš žinomų Two of us came by car, and the others walked.

another — tai an + other, todėl rašomas kartu ir, kaip a, reiškia „vienas iš daugelio, bet kuris“. Su daugiskaita jis nevartojamas; išimtis — su skaičiumi: another two days — „dar dvi dienos“. the other veikia kaip the: klausytojas žino, kuris būtent, nes liko tik jis (arba tik jie). other be artikelio prieš daugiskaitą — kaip bendra sąvoka be artikelio: „kiti apskritai“, kurie būtent — nesvarbu. others ir the others reiškia tą patį, bet stovi vietoj daiktavardžio: galūnę -s gauna tik žodis, kuris stovi vienas. Todėl other people arba tiesiog others, bet ne others people. Ir the another nebūna: artikelis another viduje jau yra. each other — „vienas kitą“ (A2 #24) — atskiras junginys.

Palyginkite:

I've got two sisters. One lives in York, and the other lives in Cardiff. seserų dvi — antroji žinoma
I've got three sisters. One lives in York, and the others live in Cardiff. likusios — visos, kurios liko
I've got five sisters. One lives in York, and another lives in Cardiff. dar viena iš kelių

Ir atminkite: my, your, this, that, Tom's užima artikelio vietą, todėl kartu su juo nestovi — my car, o ne the my car.

Taip nesakoma. ✗ What nice surprise! → ✓ What a nice surprise! Po What su skaičiuojamu žodžiu vienaskaitoje reikia a, nors lietuviškame „Kokia maloni staigmena!“ jokio žodžio jo vietoje nėra.

Pasitikrinkite.

rodyti atsakymus
I love dogs — šunys apskritai, be artikelio; The dogs in our street bark all night — konkretūs šunys; nereikia: būdvardis daikto konkrečiu nepadaro; I've got two cars: one is blue, and the other is red — automobilių du, ir antrasis vienintelis likęs, todėl the other.

Lietuvių kalbos gimtakalbių klaidos

parašyta jūsų kalbai
1

Artikelio nėra visai

✗ I bought car

✗ She is doctor

✓ I bought a car

She's a doctor. Lietuviškai „nusipirkau automobilį“, „ji gydytoja“ — be jokio papildomo žodžio, todėl artikelis atrodo nebūtina puošmena, kurią galima praleisti kalbant greitai. Bet skaičiuojamas žodis vienaskaitoje visada turi artikelį (arba my, this).

2

the prieš bendrą sąvoką

✗ The life is short → ✓ Life is short. ✗ The money isn't everything → ✓ Money isn't everything. Atsargiai ir su I like the coffee: frazė teisinga, bet reiškia „man patinka ši kava — čia“, o ne „aš mėgstu kavą“.

3

a su neskaičiuojamu žodžiu

✗ a good news, ✗ a work reikšme „darbovietė“ → ✓ some good news, a job. Lietuviškai „naujiena“ ir „darbas“ skaičiuojami: „viena naujiena“, „du darbai“. Anglų kalboje news ir work neskaičiuojami, kaip ir information, advice (B1 #16).

4

Artikelis ten, kur įprasta be jo

✗ I go to the bed at eleven → ✓ I go to bed at eleven. ✗ We had a lunch at one → ✓ We had lunch at one. Kai artikelis jau įprastas, atrodo, kad be jo frazė nepilna. Bet valgymai ir vietos „pagal paskirtį“ — pastovūs atvejai be artikelio.

5

others people ir another people

✗ others people

✗ another people

✓ other people

Lietuviškas „kitas“ derinamas su daiktavardžiu: „kitas žmogus“ — „kiti žmonės“, todėl norisi ir angliškam žodžiui pridėti daugiskaitos -s arba palikti išmoktą another. Angliškai other prieš daiktavardį nekinta, another — tik su vienaskaita (jame slypi an), o others stovi be daiktavardžio.

Tarimas

4 min

Abu artikeliai nekirčiuoti ir beveik negirdimi: a /ə/ — niekada ne /eɪ/; an /ən/.

the prieš priebalsio garsą — /ðə/, prieš balsio garsą — /ði/. Lemia garsas, o ne raidė: the university /ðə ˌjuːnɪˈvɜːsəti/ — žodis prasideda garsu /j/; the hour /ði ˈaʊə/ — h netariamas. Taip pat a university, bet an hour (A1 #12).

Artikelis susilieja su kitu žodžiu: an apple /ənˈæpl/, the end /ðiˈend/.

another ir others: /əˈnʌðə/ — kirtis antrajame skiemenyje, pradžia silpna, kaip artikelio an; /ˈʌðəz/ — skardūs /ð/ ir /z/.

Kirčiuotas the /ðiː/ — tik išskiriant: He's the expert on this. — „Jis būtent tas, pagrindinis specialistas“. Visais kitais atvejais the silpnas.

Books are expensive, so I hardly ever buy them. Instead, I go to the library near my office twice a week. It's an old building — it was built in 1910 — and it has two reading rooms. One is for children, and the other is on the first floor. It's the quietest place I know.

The library has a good collection of history books. History was my favourite subject at school, and I still read about the past more than anything else. At the moment I'm reading a book about the Romans in Britain. The book is huge, and I can only keep it for three weeks, so I'm reading it on the train every morning. Next week I'll ask for another three weeks.

The staff are very friendly. There's a librarian called Mr Hughes who always recommends something new. Last month he gave me a novel by a Welsh writer I had never heard of. The novel was strange but beautiful, and I finished it in a weekend.

People say that libraries are dying. I'm not sure that's true. On a Saturday morning the library is full: students, children with their parents, old men reading the newspapers. Some people come to study; others just want a warm, quiet place to sit. Libraries are still the best free places in town.

Rašymas

Šeši sakiniai apie vietą, kur dažnai lankotės: biblioteką, kavinę, parką, sporto salę. Reikia visų trijų rūšių artikelių, bent vieno bendro teiginio be artikelio ir vieno another, the other arba others.

Pavyzdys

There's a small park near my flat. I go there every morning before work. The park has a pond and an old bench under a tree. The bench is my favourite place. People often say that parks are boring, but I think nature is the best medicine. In the evening some people come to run, and others just walk their dogs.
