A2の第21課では、2つのリストを覚えました:あとに -ing 形が続く動詞(enjoy reading、finish writing)と、to + 動詞が続く動詞(want to learn、decide to change)です。どちらの形もとり、意味がほとんど変わらない動詞もありました:start、begin、like、love、hate — It started raining = It started to rain。

stop。 stop + -ing — やめる:He stopped smoking ten years ago. Stop talking, please. It's stopped raining. On the way home he stopped to buy some bread.

remember。 I remember locking the door. Remember to lock the door. Did you remember to buy milk?

forget。 I forgot to call her. Don't forget to send the email. forget + -ing は、ほとんどいつも I'll never forget… I'll never forget seeing the sea for the first time.

try。 I tried to open the window, but it was stuck. If the laptop is slow, try restarting it.

regret。 I regret selling my old car. We regret to inform you that the flight has been cancelled.

動詞 + -ing + to
stop He stopped smoking. — やめた He stopped to smoke.
remember I remember locking it. — かけたのを覚えている Remember to lock it.
forget I'll never forget meeting her. I forgot to call her.
try Try restarting it. I tried to open it.
regret I regret saying that. We regret to inform you…

I remember posting the letter.
I remembered to post the letter.

I regret not learning to swim. Try not to worry.

忘れずに〜して;忘れずに〜した remember + to, don't forget + to

✗ I remember to lock the door yesterday → ✓ I remember locking the door yesterday。

She stopped to talk to me はどういう意味ですか。 Try switching it off and on again

Remember to buy some bread または Don't forget to buy some bread;

He stopped to smoke

✗ I remember to meet him in Paris last year

✓ I remember meeting him in Paris last year

I tried to learn with an app 方法として試したのなら ✓ I tried learning with an app。

✗ I regret to sell my car

✓ I regret selling my car

stopped to smoke /stɒpt tə ˈsməʊk/ — 弱い to

When I was at university, I smoked, I ate badly and I never did any sport. Then, at twenty-five, I decided to change everything.

First, I stopped smoking. It was hard. For months, every time I walked past a newsagent's, I wanted to stop to buy cigarettes. I tried to give up three times before it finally worked. What helped in the end? A friend told me to try chewing gum — and it worked.

Then I started learning Spanish. I tried learning with an app, but I often forgot to open it. So I tried going to evening classes instead, and that was much better. I still remember sitting in that cold classroom on Tuesday nights, trying to understand the teacher.

I'm not perfect. I sometimes forget to do my homework, and last week I forgot to take my book to class. But I don't regret starting. I'll never forget having my first real conversation in Spanish, in a little café in Seville.

My only regret? I regret giving up the piano at twelve. Maybe I'll try to start again next year.
