a beautiful old house o casă veche și frumoasă
an expensive Swiss watch un ceas elvețian scump
a long wooden table o masă lungă de lemn
a nice new leather jacket o geacă nouă de piele, foarte drăguță

Virgula și and. Două culori se leagă cu and: a black and white photo. Când adjectivele stau după verb, despărțite de substantiv, între ultimele două trebuie tot and: The bag is small and black.

I was bored. — M-am plictisit. The lecture was boring. — Cursul a fost plictisitor.
She's interested in art. The exhibition is interesting.
We were tired after the journey. The journey was tiring.
I was surprised by the price. The price was surprising.
He was confused. The instructions were confusing.
They were disappointed. The hotel was disappointing.

Tot aici: excited — exciting, worried — worrying, annoyed — annoying (enervat — enervant), embarrassed — embarrassing (jenat, stânjenit — jenant, rușinos).

Forma în -ing o poate avea și un om, dacă el însuși provoacă sentimentul altora: He's boring — „e plictisitor”, She's an interesting person — „e un om interesant”.

Cum verifici. Întreabă-te: cine simte aici? Dacă subiectul însuși trăiește sentimentul — -ed: I was bored — m-am plictisit. Dacă îl provoacă altora — -ing: The film was boring — filmul era plictisitor.

Cu get, forma în -ed arată o schimbare: I got bored after an hour. You look worried.

I'm bored. Mă plictisesc.
I'm boring.

✗ I'm interesting in history → ✓ I'm interested in history.

Verifică-te. Cum spui „M-am plictisit la curs”? Pune în ordinea corectă: jacket, leather, black, a. Ce pui în What a ___ day! — tired sau tiring?

arată răspunsurile
I was bored at the lecture / I was bored during the lecture; a black leather jacket; tiring — ziua nu simte oboseala, ea îi obosește pe alții.

Greșelile vorbitorilor de limba română

adaptat pentru limba ta
1

I'm boring pentru „mă plictisesc”

La fel „mă interesează” — I'm interested, nu I'm interesting.

2

confused pentru lucruri

„Instrucțiunile erau confuze” → ✗ The instructions were confused → ✓ The instructions were confusing.

3

Materialul și destinația cu „de”

„O masă de lemn”, „o geacă de piele”, „o masă de bucătărie” → ✗ a table of wood, ✗ a jacket of leather, ✗ a table of kitchen → ✓ a wooden table, a leather jacket, a kitchen table.

4

Ordinea adjectivelor

✗ a leather black jacket → ✓ a black leather jacket. ✗ an Italian old car → ✓ an old Italian car. În engleză ordinea inversă se aude doar într-o opoziție: the RED big bag, not the blue one.

Pronunție

4 min

Four stars out of five

I spent months looking for a kitchen table, and last week I finally found one on a second-hand website: a lovely old round wooden table, made in Scotland about seventy years ago. The price was surprisingly low, so at first I was a bit worried. But when it arrived, I wasn't disappointed at all. The wood is in excellent condition, and the four heavy legs are solid.

There was one problem. The legs come off for delivery, so I had to put them back on myself. The instructions were confusing — two pages of tiny drawings and no words — and after an hour I was tired and annoyed. I'm not very good at fixing things, so in the end I rang my brother. He has a big red toolbox, and he's always pleased to help. Ten minutes later the table was standing on its legs.

Now it stands in our small bright kitchen, and everyone who sees it asks where it's from. The seller was friendly and quick to answer questions. If you're interested in old furniture, I can recommend her shop. Just ask her for better instructions!

Scriere

Model

Last month I bought a small black leather bag from a second-hand shop. It was surprisingly cheap, and at first I was very pleased with it. After a week one of the straps broke, and I felt really disappointed. The shop assistant was friendly, but the repair was annoying and slow. I'm not so interested in second-hand shops now. Next time I'll buy a new bag.
