Present Simple Coffee is grown in Brazil.
Present Continuous The road is being repaired.
Past Simple The bridge was built in 1890.
Past Continuous The car was being washed when I arrived.
Present Perfect Our flight has been cancelled.
Past Perfect All the tickets had been sold.
will The results will be published on Friday.
going to The old cinema is going to be sold.
The form must be signed.

สองคำที่สับสนกันบ่อยที่สุด: being อยู่ในกาล Continuous (is being repaired — กำลังซ่อมอยู่ตอนนี้) been อยู่ในกาล Perfect (has been repaired — ซ่อมเสร็จแล้ว)

The room isn't cleaned on Sundays.
Is the room cleaned every day?
When was the bridge built?
Present Perfect Has the road been repaired yet? — No, it hasn't.

My bike was stolen last night.

The office is cleaned every evening. He was arrested at the airport.

First the flour is weighed, then it is mixed with water. Applications are checked within two weeks.

This bridge was designed by a famous engineer.

They gave me a form → I was given a form. A form was given to me

ไม่ใช่ ✗ What was happened?

lie — lay — lain นอน I lay in bed until ten.
lay — laid — laid วาง She laid the papers on the desk. The papers were laid on the desk.
rise — rose — risen ขึ้น (เอง) Prices have risen again.
raise — raised — raised ยก, ทำให้ขึ้น (บางอย่าง) The shop has raised its prices. Prices have been raised.

กับดักอยู่ที่ lay เป็นทั้ง “วาง” และรูปอดีตของ “นอน”: I lay in bed — “ฉันนอนอยู่บนเตียง” รูป -ing ของ “นอน” คือ lying ของ “วาง” คือ laying

Prices rose last year.
Prices were raised last year.

Breakfast is served from seven to ten.
Mobile phones must be switched off.
The museum is visited by two million people a year.
I was given a map at the entrance.
The baby was laid gently in the cot.

ไม่พูดแบบนี้ ✗ He rose his hand → ✓ He raised his hand มือถูกยก กริยามีกรรม — จึงเป็น raise

They are repairing the road “เธอนอนลงบนโซฟา” — She lay down หรือ She laid down?

The road is being repaired; rise ไม่มีกรรม จึงไม่มี passive: Prices rose ถ้ามีคนขึ้นราคา — Prices were raised; She lay down on the sofa — lay ตรงนี้เป็นรูปอดีตของ lie.

1

ไม่มี be

✗ This bridge built in 1890

✗ The office clean every evening

✓ This bridge was built in 1890

2

รูปผิดหลัง be

✗ It was build in 1890

✗ The window was broke

✓ It was built in 1890

✗ In this factory make cars → ✓ Cars are made in this factory; ✗ Here is building a new school → ✓ A new school is being built here “ที่โรงงานนี้ผลิตรถยนต์”, “ที่นี่กำลังสร้างโรงเรียนใหม่” ไม่ต้องมีประธานในภาษาไทย ผู้เรียนจึงแปลตามคำ หรือให้สถานที่เป็นประธาน ภาษาอังกฤษต้องมีประธาน และ passive ให้ประธานนั้น ในภาษาพูดใช้ They make cars in this factory ได้ด้วย

4

✗ What was happened?

✗ He was died in 1950

✓ What happened?

He died in 1950 “เกิดอะไรขึ้น”, “ตาย” เป็นเรื่องที่เกิดกับคนหรือสิ่งของ และมักเป็นเรื่องไม่ดี จึงอยากใส่ was แบบ was born แต่ born มีกรรม — มีคนให้กำเนิด ส่วน happen, die ไม่มี

5

✗ The shop has risen its prices

✗ Prices were risen

✓ The shop has raised its prices

6

been แทน being

✗ The road is been repaired

✓ The road is being repaired

The road has been repaired (ซ่อมเสร็จแล้ว) สองคำนี้ฟังคล้ายกัน ภาษาไทยแยกด้วย “กำลัง” กับ “แล้ว” ในภาษาอังกฤษ “กำลัง” คือ is being และ “แล้ว” คือ has been

3 It was built in 1890 — /ɪt wəz ˈbɪlt/, The road has been closed — /həz bɪn ˈkləʊzd/ was, has, been

being กับ been ต่างกันที่จำนวนพยางค์ being /ˈbiːɪŋ/ — สองพยางค์ been /biːn/ ในการพูดเร็วเป็น /bɪn/ — พยางค์เดียว is being repaired /ɪz ˈbiːɪŋ rɪˈpeəd/ เทียบกับ has been repaired /həz bɪn rɪˈpeəd/

lie, lay, laid ต่างกันที่สระ: lie /laɪ/ — เหมือนใน my; lay /leɪ/ — เหมือนใน day; laid /leɪd/ — เสียงเดียวกันและมี /d/ ท้าย

Our bakery is in a small market town in Yorkshire. It has been run by the same family since 1952, and every loaf is still made by hand. Customers often ask how it is done, so here is the whole process.

The work starts at four in the morning. First, the flour is weighed and mixed with water, salt and yeast. The dough is then covered with a cloth and left in a warm place, and over the next two hours it slowly rises. While it is rising, the ovens are heated. Next, the dough is cut into pieces, and each piece is shaped by hand. The loaves are laid on long wooden trays and baked for about forty minutes. Then they are left by an open window to cool.

By seven o'clock the first bread has been delivered to three local cafés, and at eight the shop is opened.

This week the kitchen is being repainted, so fewer loaves are being baked than usual. And there is one more piece of news. Last year the price of flour rose sharply, so our prices had to be raised by ten pence a loaf. We were worried, but so far nobody has complained.
