Grammatica

There's something wrong with the heating. Il riscaldamento ha qualcosa che non va.
The shower doesn't work. La doccia non funziona.
The room isn't clean. La camera non è pulita.
My order hasn't arrived yet.

I'm afraid there's a problem with my room. I'm afraid this isn't what I ordered.

La frase viene subito dopo I'm afraid, senza of: ✗ I'm afraid of there is a problem.

Il disaccordo cortese segue la stessa logica:

diretto — suona brusco cortese
You're wrong. I'm afraid I don't agree.
No. Actually, I think…
That's not true. I see what you mean, but…

Che cosa si chiede alla fine:

Could you fix it, please? Potrebbe ripararlo, per favore?
I'd like to speak to the manager. Vorrei parlare con il responsabile.
Could I have a refund? Potrei avere un rimborso?

Errori tipici degli italofoni

adattato alla tua lingua
1

«Deve ripararlo»

✗ You must fix it

✗ Fix it now

✓ I'm afraid there's a problem with my room. Could you fix it, please?

Prima l'attenuazione, poi Could you (lezione 17).

2

actually non è «attualmente»

✗ Actually I live in Rome (nel senso di «adesso») → ✓ Now I live in Rome. actually vuol dire «in realtà», «veramente»: serve per correggere o contraddire (Actually, I think…).

3

I'm not agree

I'm afraid there's a problem ↘↗
