Vietoj jo — žmogus ir to + veiksmažodis: I want you to call me. Šį modelį jau pažįstate iš perpasakojimo: asked me to wait (B1 #15), advised me to rest (B1 #16). Čia prie jo prisideda norėjimo ir lūkesčio veiksmažodžiai.
Noriu, kad tu: veiksmažodis + ką + to + veiksmažodis.
| I want you to call me tonight. | Noriu, kad vakare man paskambintum. |
| My parents wanted me to become a doctor. | Tėvai norėjo, kad tapčiau gydytoju. |
| I'd like you to meet my sister. | Norėčiau supažindinti jus su savo seserimi. |
| Would you like me to help? | Gal jums padėti? |
| We expect everyone to be on time. | Tikimės, kad visi ateis laiku. |
| I need you to sign here, please. | Reikia, kad čia pasirašytumėte. |
| She doesn't want us to worry. | Ji nenori, kad jaudintumėmės. |
Po veiksmažodžio eina objektinė įvardžio forma: me, you, him, her, us, them. Neiginys paprastai dedamas prie want: I don't want you to go skamba natūraliau nei I want you not to go. Would you like me to…? — mandagus pasiūlymas padėti, „gal jums…?“, šalia Shall I…? (A2 #12).
Priversti, leisti, padėti: make, let, help. Po make ir let veiksmažodis eina be to, kaip po modalinio. Po help — kaip patogiau: su to arba be jo.
| The teacher made us rewrite the essay. | Mokytojas privertė mus perrašyti rašinį. |
| That film always makes me cry. | Per tą filmą aš visada verkiu. |
| My parents let me stay up late at weekends. | Tėvai savaitgaliais leisdavo man vėlai eiti miegoti. |
| Let me help you. | Leiskite, padėsiu. |
| Can you help me carry these boxes? | Padėsi nunešti dėžes? (= help me to carry) |
make — priversti valdžia arba aplinkybių jėga; priversti gali ir daiktas: filmas, oras, triukšmas. let — leisti, netrukdyti. Jį pažįstate iš Let's (A1 #16): Let's go — tai let us go, „leisk mums eiti“.
get + ką + to — įkalbėti, pasiekti savo. Britų šnekamojoje kalboje tai labai dažna forma: I'll get Tom to fix it. — „Paprašysiu Tomo, kad pataisytų“. I couldn't get him to listen. — „Nepavyko priversti jo klausytis“. Kitaip nei make, get turi to.
Palyginkite — tos pačios prasmės, bet kita forma:
| They let us leave early. | be to |
| They allowed us to leave early. | allow — tas pats „leisti“, bet su to, oficialiau |
Neveikiamojoje rūšyje make gauna to: We were made to wait for an hour. — „Mus privertė laukti valandą“. let neveikiamosios rūšies neturi; vietoj jos — be allowed to iš B1 #11: We were allowed to leave early. — „Mums leido išeiti anksčiau“. Gaunama pora: They let us leave early — We were allowed to leave early.
Sangrąžiniai įvardžiai — „save“ ir „pats“.
| I — myself | we — ourselves |
| you — yourself | you — yourselves (apie kelis) |
| he — himself, she — herself, it — itself | they — themselves |
Jie turi tris darbus.
Veiksmas nukreiptas į save — „save“, „sau“, „-si“: I cut myself. — „Įsipjoviau“. Did you hurt yourself? — „Neužsigavai?“. She taught herself Italian. — „Ji pati išmoko italų kalbą“. Ir dvi mandagumo formulės: Help yourself! — „Vaišinkitės!“, Enjoy yourselves! — „Gerai praleiskite laiką!“.
„Pats“, o ne kas nors kitas — pabrėžimui, frazės gale arba iškart po daiktavardžio: I'll do it myself. — „Pats padarysiu“. Did you make this cake yourself? The town itself is small, but the beaches are beautiful. — „Pats miestas mažas…“.
by myself — „vienas, be kitų; be pagalbos“: I live by myself. — „Gyvenu vienas“. She built the website by herself. Tą patį reiškia on my own: I did it on my own.
Daug lietuviškų sangrąžinių veiksmažodžių su „-si“ angliškai vartojami be įvardžio: wash — praustis, get dressed — rengtis, relax — atsipalaiduoti, feel — jaustis, worry — jaudintis, meet — susitikti, hurry — skubintis. myself dedamas tik tada, kai veiksmas tikrai nukreiptas į save ir tai svarbu: I cut myself, bet I washed and got dressed.
Taip nesakoma. ✗ I want he to come → ✓ I want him to come. Po want — objektinė forma: him, ne he, nors lietuviškame „noriu, kad jis ateitų“ stovi „jis“.
Pasitikrinkite. Kaip pasakyti „Ar norite, kad jums padėčiau?“? Kas negerai sakinyje She let me to use her car? Kaip pasakyti „Pats sutaisiau dviratį“?

Lietuvių kalbos gimtakalbių klaidos
parašyta jūsų kalbaiŠalutinis sakinys su „kad“ vietoj ką + to
✗ I want that you call me → ✓ I want you to call me. ✗ Would you like that I open the window? → ✓ Would you like me to open the window? Po want ir would like tokio that nėra: žmogus + to + veiksmažodis.
to po make ir let
✗ He made me to wait → ✓ He made me wait. ✗ My parents didn't let me to go out → ✓ My parents didn't let me go out. O angliškai beveik visi šio modelio veiksmažodžiai ima to — want me to, ask me to, allow me to, — ir make, let norisi pritaikyti prie jų. Juos reikia įsiminti kaip išimtis.
„-si“ virsta myself
✗ I feel myself much better
✓ I feel much better
„Pats vienas“
✗ I live myself
✓ I live by myself
I live on my own arba I live alone. Bet myself be by — tai „save“ arba „pats, asmeniškai“, o „vienas, be kitų“ — by myself.
Neveikiamoji rūšis nuo let
✗ We were let to leave early
✓ We were allowed to leave early
„Mums buvo leista išeiti anksčiau“ kildinamas iš „leisti“, o šis veiksmažodis išmoktas kaip let. Bet neveikiamojoje rūšyje let nevartojamas.
Tarimas
4 minĮvardis tarp dviejų veiksmažodžių nekirčiuotas ir sutrumpėja:
| want him to | /ˈwɒnt ɪm tə/ |
| made her wait | /ˈmeɪd ə ˈweɪt/ |
| let me help | /ˈlet mi ˈhelp/ |
Pradinis /h/ žodžiuose him, her frazės viduryje dingsta — tai norma, o ne aplaidumas. Kirčiuoti abu veiksmažodžiai, įvardis tarp jų praslysta.
Sangrąžiniame įvardyje kirtis tenka -self: myself /maɪˈself/, yourself /jɔːˈself/, themselves /ðəmˈselvz/, ourselves /ˌaʊəˈselvz/. Kai įvardis reiškia „pats“, jis dar ir išskiriamas balsu: I'll do it mySELF.
Tekstas
5 minMy first job was in a small café in Brighton when I was seventeen. The owner, Mrs Price, was very strict. She made us wear a white shirt every day, and she never let us use our phones behind the counter. She expected everyone to arrive ten minutes early, and if you were late, she made you stay ten minutes longer.
In the first week she wanted me to wash the dishes and nothing else. I was bored, so I asked her to let me make the coffee. "Not yet," she said. "I want you to watch Sam first." Sam was the oldest waiter, and he helped me learn everything: how to use the coffee machine, how to carry three plates at once, how to talk to difficult customers.
By the end of the summer I could run the café by myself on quiet afternoons. Once I burnt myself on the coffee machine, but I didn't tell anyone — I just held my hand under cold water and carried on.
On my last day Mrs Price made me a cake herself. "You've taught yourself a lot," she said. "Would you like me to write you a reference?" I still have it.

Pavyzdys
At my first job, my manager expected me to answer every email the same day. She made me write reports every Friday, but she let me work from home on Mondays. She didn't let us eat at our desks, and she made everyone switch off their phones in meetings. She wanted me to learn the new software quickly, so I taught myself in the evenings. A colleague offered to help, but I wanted to do it on my own. In the end I could do most things by myself.
