He said, "I'll help you" → He offered to help me.

否定是 not to。

The doctor advised me to rest.
warn——警告 She warned us not to swim there.
remind——提醒 He reminded me to lock the door.
invite——邀请 They invited us to stay for dinner.

第15课的 ask 和 tell 也属于这一组:asked me to wait, told us not to be late。

offer——主动提出(帮忙) He offered to carry my bag.
She promised to call. / She promised not to tell anyone.
refuse——拒绝 He refused to answer.
agree——同意 They agreed to change the date.

She suggested going by train.
apologise for——为…… He apologised for being late.
thank 人 for——为…… She thanked me for helping.
insist on——坚持要 He insisted on paying.

She suggested that we should go by train.

He said he would call me——转述原话,要用 would; He promised to call me——转述意图,would 就不需要了。

She promised that she would call,He agreed that the plan was good。

"You should see a doctor." / "If I were you, I'd…" advise
"I'll help you." / "Shall I carry it?" offer
"I'll do it, I promise." promise
"No, I won't." refuse
"OK, fine." agree
"Let's…" / "Why don't we…?" suggest
"Sorry I'm late." apologise for
"Don't forget to…" remind
"Be careful — don't…" warn
"You'd better…" advise
"You'd better not…" warn

除了 should(A2 第11课)和 If I were you(第8课),英语里还有一种带警告意味的建议:had better + 不带 to 的动词。

You'd better see a doctor.
You'd better not be late again.
I'd better go — it's nearly midnight.
We'd better take an umbrella.

否定是在 better 后面加 not:You'd better not。

should 还是 had better? You should see a doctor——平和的建议,“最好去一下”。 You'd better see a doctor——语气更强,而且针对具体情况:不这样做,就会有后果。 People should sleep eight hours,而不说 had better。对上司或者陌生人说 You'd better…,听起来可能像威胁;说自己——I'd better go——对谁都可以这样说。

You'd better see a doctor" → She advised me to see a doctor;"You'd better not swim here" → He warned us not to swim there。had better 在转述里不后移,也可以用 said:She said I'd better see a doctor。

He offered to drive us.
He suggested taking a taxi.

My friend advised me not to buy the car.
They refused to give us our money back.
I apologised for forgetting her birthday.

✗ He insisted to pay → ✓ He insisted on paying。 ✗ You'd better to go → ✓ You'd better go。

"Let's take a taxi" 用哪个动词转述?He advised to rest

suggest——She suggested taking a taxi; He advised me to rest; You'd better not be late——She warned me not to be late.

✗ She suggested me to wait,✗ He suggested to go by train → ✓ She suggested that I should wait,He suggested going by train。✗ The doctor advised to rest → ✓ The doctor advised me to rest。 英语里 suggest 后面不接人 + to,只接 -ing 或 that 从句; advise 后面却一定要有人,再接 to。

2

advice 加 a 或者 -s。

✗ He gave me a good advise,✗ many advices → ✓ He gave me some good advice,a good piece of advice。

3

had better 后面加 to。

✗ You'd better to go,✗ You'd better not to be late → ✓ You'd better go,You'd better not be late。

✗ He apologised for be late,✗ Thank you for help me,✗ He insisted to pay → ✓ He apologised for being late,Thank you for helping me,He insisted on paying。

He offered to help. She refused to answer. They agreed to wait.

You'd better——/jʊd ˈbetə/: /b/ 前面的 /d/ 几乎听不见,听起来像 /jʊ ˈbetə/。 重音在 better 和实义动词上:You'd BETter GO。

On Monday our team had a difficult meeting. We were supposed to finish a big presentation for a client by Friday, but half of it wasn't ready.

Tom arrived ten minutes late and apologised for keeping everyone waiting. He promised to send us his part that evening. Lucy offered to help him with the charts, but he refused — he said he had almost finished.

Then our manager, Helen, looked at the plan and suggested working in pairs. She advised us to start with the hardest slides and warned us not to change the design at the last minute. I reminded her that two people were on holiday that week. She thought for a moment and agreed to move the deadline to the following Wednesday. "But you'd better not ask for more time again," she added with a smile.

After the meeting Tom thanked Lucy for offering to help and invited us all to lunch. He insisted on paying for everyone. I think he simply felt guilty about being late.
