O inglês faz a distinção sempre.

Forma: have — O QUÊ — terceira forma. É a passiva da B1 #13 com o cliente acrescentado: My hair was cut — “cortaram o meu cabelo” — vira I had my hair cut — “cortei o cabelo (no cabeleireiro)”.

Present Simple I have my hair cut every six weeks. Corto o cabelo a cada seis semanas.
Present Continuous We're having the kitchen painted. Estão pintando a nossa cozinha.
Past Simple I had my car repaired last week. Semana passada levei o carro para consertar.
Present Perfect I've just had my eyes tested. Acabei de fazer exame de vista.
going to We're going to have new windows put in. Vamos colocar janelas novas.
verbo modal You should have the boiler checked every year. Vale a pena mandar revisar a caldeira todo ano.

I had it cut, We had them delivered.

Negação e pergunta. Aqui have é um verbo principal comum, como em have breakfast. Por isso a negação e a pergunta se fazem com do, does, did: I didn't have it cut, Did you have your car repaired?, Where do you have your hair cut?, How often do you have your windows cleaned?

We had the sofa delivered on Saturday.

— Roubaram o carro deles. She had her bag stolen on the train.

get no lugar de have — a mesma coisa, só que mais coloquial: I need to get my phone fixed. Where did you get your hair cut?

I'd like to have this jacket cleaned, please. Queria mandar este paletó para a lavanderia.
I need to get my watch repaired. Preciso mandar consertar o meu relógio.
How much does it cost to have a carpet cleaned? Quanto custa lavar um tapete?
How long will it take? Quanto tempo vai demorar?
When will it be ready? Quando vai ficar pronto?

Compare. Três frases com as mesmas palavras dizem três coisas diferentes:

I cut my hair.
I had my hair cut. Cortaram o meu cabelo — no cabeleireiro.
I had cut my hair.

get sem cliente: “aconteceu comigo”. — “Roubaram a minha bicicleta”. É a passiva da B1 #13, só que com got no lugar de was. Assim se fala do que aconteceu de repente, quase sempre algo desagradável: Our flight got cancelled. He got hurt in a match. I got caught in the rain. A pergunta e a negação se fazem com do: Did anyone get hurt? The parcel didn't get delivered. Na escrita e nas notícias normalmente se diz was: The flight was cancelled.

I got my bike repaired.
My bike got stolen. Roubaram a minha bicicleta — aconteceu comigo.

I'm having my eyes tested tomorrow. Amanhã vou fazer exame de vista.
We had the whole flat cleaned before we moved out.
She has her nails done every two weeks. Ela faz as unhas a cada duas semanas.
I've never had my photo taken by a professional. Nunca fui fotografado por um fotógrafo profissional.

Assim não se diz. ✗ I'd my hair cut yesterday → ✓ I had my hair cut yesterday.

O que quer dizer I had cut my hair?

mostrar as respostas
I had my watch repaired / I got my watch repaired; eu mesmo cortei o cabelo, e isso foi antes de outro fato no passado; Where do you have your hair cut? / Where do you get your hair cut?

Erros de quem fala português do Brasil

escrito para o seu idioma
1

“Cortei o cabelo” com o verbo simples

I cut my hair yesterday sobre a ida ao cabeleireiro — em inglês quer dizer que você mesmo pegou a tesoura. O certo é I had my hair cut ou I got my hair cut.

2

make ou do no lugar de have

✗ I made my hair cut

✗ We made a reform in the kitchen

✓ I had my hair cut

We had the kitchen renovated / We had some work done in the kitchen.

3

A terceira forma antes do objeto

✗ We're having painted the kitchen

✓ We're having the kitchen painted

E I had repaired my car não é “mandei consertar o carro”, e sim “eu mesmo tinha consertado o carro” (Past Perfect). “Mandei consertar o carro” põe o verbo antes do objeto, e a terceira forma escapa para a frente. No serviço, o objeto vem antes da terceira forma: I had my car repaired.

4

O infinitivo no lugar da terceira forma

✗ I had my car repair

✗ We're having the kitchen paint

✓ I had my car repaired

We're having the kitchen painted.

3 min

O acento principal cai no objeto, e não no verbo:

I had my hair cut. We're having the kitchen painted. I need to get my watch repaired.

I'd cut my hair.

hairdresser's /ˈheədresəz/ — assim o inglês britânico chama o próprio salão de cabeleireiro: I'm going to the hairdresser's.

This has been a busy week in our flat. We're having the kitchen painted, so everything from the kitchen is in the hall, and we're eating in the living room.

On Monday I had the washing machine repaired. A man came at nine, changed a small part and left after twenty minutes. It cost forty pounds — less than I had expected. On Wednesday I finally had my hair cut. I hadn't had it cut since the summer, and my neighbour had started to make jokes about it.

Next month we're going to have new windows put in. The old ones are very thin, and in winter the cold comes straight through them.

There is some bad news too. Our neighbours had their car stolen last week, right outside the house. Last year their bikes got stolen from the garden too. So we've decided to have a security camera installed above the front door. This morning I rang a local company.

— Hello, I'd like to have a security camera installed. When could you do it? — We could come on Friday morning. Would nine o'clock be all right? — Perfect. And could I get the old light over the door removed at the same time? — No problem. That'll be another fifteen pounds.
